My Vaio has all sort of problems with the nVidia chip. Fortunately it has a second mode you can switch to that uses an Intel Graphics chip. That works fine.

It’s also probably the reason my new D630 for work still hasn’t arrived! I hope the BIOS update doesn’t simply turn down the GPU clock and up the fan speed.
