Man, that is cool. I love my N810 but am not sure if I’ll get it.

I heard the version of Maemo that it is running is binary-compatible with Ubuntu’s ARMel port… it’ll be interesting if they can run android apps on it, too. :)

How can a device have two model numbers? It smacks of confusion and design conflict. Now we see it culminating in a hybrid forces the consumer to buy another phone to get a shrunken semblance of the Internet Tablet. A good deal if you want a phone, but if you were expecting an evolution of the Internet Tablet, its a letdown. You can’t serve two masters (phone and MID). I hear Nokia may have another Maemo model in the wings ala Apple, perhaps there’s hope.

Oh sweet convergence!

This is actually looking pretty cool. I have a N810 and it misses a camera, phone-function and PIM big time. It feels so good to see this kind of functionality on a tablet.

I’m also comforted by the positive nature in the review. I really dig my N810, but it is hugely underpowered. If the N900 was to, I think the review would sound differently.

Also, Maemo has been yelled at for being inconsistent, and it is. Also, I’ve been typing way too much in the terminal on my N810, than I would ever accept in a phone. I’m also comforted in this aspects by the review. Otherwise, I think he would have ranted about it.

As James indicated Symbian makes no sense compared to the rest of the OS landscape while Maemo is better but still doesn’t make any sense.
Heck I would say that Win mobile doesn’t make sense either.
Android is the only OS that makes sense for open devices. and then you have RIM, Apple and Palm for proprietary platforms.

Very impressive, but the fact that it is a phone makes me concerned about the price. Unlocked phones of this caliber always sell for a premium-just look at the N97 (600 US$). Also, they tend to have small screens, but this new device may not have any issues there.

On the other hand, similar but phoneless devices like the older N800/N810 Internet Tablets and the Samsung Mondi tend to hover around 400-450 US$. Much more affordable for someone on a tight budget like myself.

Indeed it does and that’s probably because so many people complained that the previous Internet Tablets didn’t have those features. They may share a few features but that doesn’t make one the successor to the other. This is no more a replacement for the N97 than HTC’s Android phones are a replacement for the HTC’s Windows Mobile phones. The model number RX-51, which was known to belong to the next Internet Tablet, and the fact that it’s running the next version of Maemo places it in line with the N800, N810, and N810 WE.

Still, it is in the internet tablet form factor, running the internet tablet OS. And the N97 is rumored to be followed up by a mini version.

I think it has nothing to do with the N97 and is just a way for Nokia to keep the internet tablet team relevant.

That may be but it is also a phone and has a 5 MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Shares more with the N97 than the N810.

This is the successor to the N810 Internet Tablet not the N97. RX-51 is the model number and it follows the same naming convention of the previous Internet Tablets. The N810 was the RX-44 and the N810 WiMax Edition was RX-48.
