Easy there, folks. Whatever happened to “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery”? Perhaps people make their WinMo devices look like iPhones for the same reason that folks make their Windows PC’s look like Macs (and vice versa). They are expressing their right to personalize and customize their UI.
You can do everything the iphone does but on a pocket PC. Multi-touch is just marketing for a touch screen.
At first, I thought you needed new hardware, but you don’t. You can use a normal touch screen and do the same thing, it is the software that matters here.
Microsoft’s Deepfish does the same thing apple’s browser does. Touch screen scrolling is already being worked on already no biggie. The proximity feature in hardware is the only real thing missing.
The fact that I can do whatever I want on my pocket PC and I can run whatever software I want from games to emulators to using my voice to using it to remotely reboot a server is huge.
With the Iphone you are stuck with what Apple tells you can run. Thanks but no thanks. I can do better while saving money and get more features and flexibility at the same time.
LOL! I think it took the whole of 10 minutes after the first released picture of an iPhone before some geek skinned his WM phone to look like it. I own a WM phone, I’ve owned WM phones for years and hopefully I’ll own one for years to come. I have nothing against an iPhone but I can’t think of too many things more pointless than making a WM phone look like an iPhone. Seriously, if you want a phone that looks like an iPhone, get an iPhone. A WM phone skinned to look like an iPhone makes a statement alright; “My mom doesn’t charge me rent”
“Seriously, if you want a phone that looks like an iPhone, get an iPhone.”
LOL Mark! My point exactly. Just shows a Windows Mobile user’s poor self image. I have a good Win Mo image. Doesn’t need to look an iPhone for me to love my WinMo.
Its not the fact that people are spoofing the iphone design its just showing off the power of an iphone vs the power of WM5 the simple fact that you can imitate everything except the mercury switch shows a few things. 1) that once you have a WM5 phone you love you can customize it to almost every phone that comes out if you get good skins.
2) why imitate an iphone, you get to have your cake and eat it too. If you want an iphone with the complete functionality and customization of the WM5 why not. I would much rathar skin a product and not lose any of my fav features than throw the phone to the side for a very nicely designed ipod/phone. When i can get the same features with WM5 skinned.
3) What’s going to happen when Apple releases new graphics and an updated system for iphone 2.0 all the WM5 spoofers will modify icons and colors etc. and iphone users will be stuck with the same thing.
PERIOD POINT BLANK
If you own an WM5 and want the look and feel of an iPhone, however still want to retain all the usability of WM5 then skin it. It makes sense and takes roughy about 40mins to install the skins & today screen.
1.) You can!
2.) It is my phone, someone has come up with an innovative menuing system and input/control approach, I like it.
3.) Skinning can add functionality and style.
Reasons I don’t just buy and iPhone:
1.) No GPS
2.) No 3G+
3.) No Dictionary
4.) No eBook reader
5.) No Adobe reader
6.) No Freecell
7.) No TomTom
8.) No handwriting recognition
…this could go on forever.
I agree! If they are going to steal an interface, they should steal the Microsoft Surface! But then – imagine the tech support calls.
“My phone doesn’t work anymore since I set my drink on it.”
It’s just a poor self image.
Windows Mobile has been constantly denegrated to the point WinMo users need something to feel good about.
“Look, my interface can look cool too!”
Seriously.
