New Palm Pre video emerges- why I want one
We were all over the Palm Pre at the CES this month and since seeing this new smartphone from the folks who made PDAs household words I have been starting to feel the urge to have one. The folks at Mobile Divide got to see one with Palm and have published a video of the Pre in action and it’s the best look I have seen of the Pre so far. How can you not like technology that uses the same stuff found on gecko feet? Have a look at the video and see why I am seriously jonesing for a Pre now:

James,
I’m shocked that you would advocate the senseless slaughter of geckos for their feet just so you can have a better recharging experience on your portable device. :-)
Seriously, the Pre demo from CES was very interesting, but this video doesn’t show anything new or impressive. The Pre looks very intriguing, and I anxiously await whether the reality matches the promise.
Tom, this video shows that the Pre handles multi-tasking probably better than any phone ever. Gecko feet and all. :)
Looks a great design but I can’t move over unless it has the great apps that are on my iphone.I just can’t see the palm getting the same range of apps
1H09 is so ambiguous, though. Who knows what will be out/announced in the interim. The Nokia N97 should drop, and Apple has something up its sleeve for the iPhone, too. And exclusive on Sprint? Oy veh.
@Scoobie: Are you serious? There are millions of apps for Palm OS and there’s no reason to expect that developers won’t rush to write apps for Web OS.
Sometimes I wonder whether you Apple people live in the real world or not.
is the sprint exclusivity real? hoping not!
palm got my attention w/the Pre but we’ll see. i’d have to see it handson before i let palm back into my geeky heart :P
I am okay with that “Sprint exclusive” as long as they also come out with a reasonably priced unlocked GSM model.
It’s a Sprint timed exclusive though, so it’ll be fine. And for the record, Sprint is actually the best priced of the three major networks with 3G (T-Mobile’s 3G is so limited that I don’t count them, they have great coverage, fastest download download speeds, and I’ve had almost no issues with calls dropping or with horrible sound quality like friends on other networks have had.
The only issue with Sprint is they’ve had very poor customer service in the past, which for me has improved greatly over the past year or two.
I’ve got a few small issues with the Pre, mostly the small battery and relatively small flash size (I’d prefer 32GB, but even 16GB would be nice), but I’ll still almost certainly be getting it day of release.
I have been shockingly impressed with what I’ve seen of the Palm Pre. I have an iPhone 2G, I love it – but I love it for what it brought to me – simplicity. All my contacts, etc in one place, easily, a great email viewer (I know some disagree) and my iPhone has become my primary email machine, since I do a lot more reading than sending!
However, what I’ve seen of the Pre looks like they’re got the UI nailed, and more importantly, the way the applications all interact with each other, and with your information. It almost blurs the whole definition of an application – it’s just your info, there, when you want it. The iPhone’s applications are each great individually, but they don’t have the (I hate to say it) “synergy” the Palm shows.
If this Palm Pre is as good as it looks, I can see my iPhone being relegated to a de-facto iPod Touch!!
I do think the Sprint exclusivity is a HUMUNGOUS mistake, unless the GSM/UMTS version comes out at the same time or VERY shortly afterwards. I always remember Motorola making this mistake with the Q and Verizon. Remember how hot the Q was, until the 90% GSM/UMTS rest of the world got tired of waiting, by which time Samsung, HTC et all had satisfied that thirst with oodles of QWERTY-phones.
give it to me!
great, a competitor for android! so it will be this palm pre or an android phone, need to find more info on this pre.
ps: i do NOT like apple and the iphone, so they are not on my list :-)
