Hmmm, it really depends on what you wanted to use this device for. At $1300 it’s like a mini laptop. I am a writer that love to write in cafes and on the job (if it’s an article).

I was seriously debating on the slimmer sexier iPhone but I could never type an article on an iPhone virtual keyboard.

Battery life is supposed to be super, so long plane trips will be worth while as well.

I don’t know about everyone, but I think at $1000 it’s definitely worth it. Gonna try to ask a friend in Asia to find it, and you know what? They probably can do a WM6 English for you if you ask them in Asia :P

@play. Try asking in the Athena forums at XDA Developers. I’m sure you WILL be able to, but whether you can do this currently I don’t know.

I don’t believe you can convert the language in WM since it’s installed in ROM.

Played the 7510 at Taipei HTC store. Noticeable difference from the 7501 is the Keyboard (thinner anf flat). It’s listed about US$950, WM6 Chinese edition.

Is there an easy way to convert to WM6 English? If so I will get it next month when I come back.

If you need a device that will see you through a days work off site, without you having to swap battery or go in search of a power point every few hours, then $1300 (pretty much exactly what we are going to pay in the UK – no wonder we Europeans are so grumpy) seems fair. It isn’t cheap, because it so niche.

The HTC Shift is only a few hundred more, but that is sub 2 hours battery life, and you can grow old waiting for the thing to boot into Vista.

If “proper” computing devices (be it Apple, Linux or PC) worked like these things many people would never look at another device. Instant on. No, really, instant. All day battery life. Connects anywhere. Will run your presentation at a pinch. Takes up minimal room.

But they don’t exist, yet.

WinMo is very well supported with applications. Yes, I would love it to run OneNote, or at least for OneNote Mobile to not be so mickey-mouse. Or to have some other sort of note taking and idea collection facility, maybe Evernote will work in Opera Mobile 9.5 ?

In the mean time, as a solution to a problem, it works rather nicely if that is your problem. If it isn’t then the penguin just looks a bit silly waddling about is the sunshine :)

I can understand the HTC for certain niche applications and uses, specifically James’ use of it a CES, to support his live blogging, and possibly also as a good and large ebook reader, but I do think the price is exorbitant against the competition, especially when it is only a windows mobile 6 device, and therefore limited by the applications available for it.

Now, if Apple could do something similar to the Advantage, say with screen twice the size of the iPhone, (giving the same 640 x 480 resolution as the Advantage or even greater maybe?), in a slimmer format with some sort of keyboard / stand (or even a mini HTC Shift type design), and running the iPhone 2.0 (or whatever is the latest and greatest software) with 32Gb of storage, I’d be prepared to pay top dollar for it. Give the application landscape that is going to explode with the App Store, another platform for those applications will surely only help Apple and the developers producing them.

Import + low Dollar = high price. It is as simple as that.

€800 standard price with 1.6 Dollars to the Euro and you have a $1300 price.

Maybe it’s because they are looking at the high US demand?

You know, since it can’t be legally imported at a honest rate, they are charging a premium for it?

Of course, when these things keep sitting on the shelves because no one in their right mind is going to pay that much for the device, they’ll bring the prices down to something more realistic.

Just a thought anyway.

I just don’t understand that this device could be $1300, while the base Eee PC is $1000 less and arguably, much more functional.

In any future versions of this device, I think they would be smart to put an Atom or the new Via in.

Deeply dissapointed with the Price.1300 is a lot. I would have bought if it was around $800.

For 1300, i think i can buy a ipaq 210 and a hp tx2500 tablet or may be 4-5 iphones :-)

Yes, the 7510 has some enhancements over my 7500. But $1300. That’s ouch to (at least) the 3rd power! I just don’t see the enhancements as all that meaningful. Maybe I’m missing something.
