How about just don’t upgrade the firmware in your wife’s phone, okay? She just doesn’t care, and thinks you are a silly boy using her phone as a toy who ought to grow up and not waste time.

I just got done doing a firmware update on my spouse’s Palm Centro. All is well, thank goodness. Most of you guys worry about bricking your wife’s phone and upsetting her, but I get to work on my hubby’s phone, and he outweighs me by 100 lbs. Talk about nervous! (Good thing he’s not inclined to throw his weight around.)

Add to that list your bosses phone :-) I had to upgrade an original n95 up 4 firmware updates… ended up going back to the shop… at least I had a backup of the data.

Ouch! I refuse…REFUSE to work on anyone’s phone, computer or anything else electronic because from that point on, the owner of the device will take the lazy way out of any problem, real or imagined, by picking up the phone and calling ME. “Hey, how do I get Word to do this?” How the hell would I know? Did I write Word? Have you EVER seen me use Word? Does Word have anything, even remotely, to do with the video card I put in your computer? But people don’t get it so I nip the whole thing in the bud and say “Sorry, I know I have that exact model phone but I don’t know anything about it”. :-D

same thing happened to my blackjack2 as well.. it’s on its way to texas. tech support was fast and sent a ups packing label, but what a pain. my back up phon.e is my htc advantage, not ideal lol.

Don’t offer to replace it, warn them, and if you do happen to brick it maybe you won’t need to do free IT next time. :)

but what about when they come asking you to do something like that?

Also, never offer to ‘fix’ a friends device unless you can afford to buy them a new one!

I have that exact fear every time I update my wife’s iPhone. Mine is jailbroke but I dare not do hers for the fear of having an issue. Some things are just better left alone.
