whynot wait until you’re home and post something more than one line. Posts like this made your CES coverage useless IMO, and did nothing more than clutter up Google reader. I am looking forward to a real comparison, but one line doesn’t’ quite cut it. I am assuming the 6 extra posts about the Air landing was a glitch and you weren’t that excited.
One line is all you’re going to get. I got 10 minutes in the store and they weren’t happy with me once they figured out I was taking pictures of the Air vs. another laptop. How can I do a “real comparison” in the Apple store?
Bittermormon you are doing your username justice ;)
While the 6 extra post where on the annoying side, I did enjoy the picture comparison and no need for more lines on the post it the picture said it all.
I love seeing them side by side! Now I finally have a real feel for how big the MBA really is. That’s no lightweight. I love my 2710p, and it’s a fully featured Tablet PC, not a system with some questionable compromises.
Perhaps it wasn’t written with as much kind suggestiveness as desirable, but I do agree with Bitter’s point to some extent. I love jkontherun and read it multiple times a day (always hoping for a new post!). But the one liners with pics from CES were less than informative and didn’t add to the “not being there myself” experience. The Macbook Air photos were a bit better as I at least knew what the MBA and 2710p are. So the only thing I was supposed to learn from the photo was the size comparison. And a picture and 1 line were sufficient for this purpose. At CES, however, there was more to convey. The photo on the go posts aren’t for every life event and as long as they are used for appropriate purposes, I welcome them. However, not everything is sufficiently capurted with 1 line and 1 photo. All that being said, if it makes JK happy to post them, then post away. Cause if JK ain’t happy, ain’t no body happy! Keep up the awesome work on the blog. Love it! And Kevin is awesome as well… :-)
That photo is very misleading. the hp is 1.11 inches thick with the top closed. the Macbook Air is only .76 inches thick with the top closed at its thickest point. and yes the hp is slightly smaller in the x+y dimensions (11.42×8.35 vs. 12.8×8.94)for the simple fact that the HP is a 12.1 inch display, and the Macbook Air has a 13.3 inch display. the real amazing number, that will give you some idea of just how “small” the MBA is, is the volume occupied. the Macbook air takes up a grand total of 56.81 cubic inches, while the HP 2710p takes up 105.85 cubic inches.
The 2710p is 1.86 times bigger than the MBA. it is not “much smaller” than the Air
lets be honest here. Go back and take a picture from a perspective that does not trick the eye into seeing the Macbook as roughly equal in girth to the relatively svelte but still much thicker HP 2710.
Mac Book Air is not a ultraportable with this big screen of 13,3″, and for 1600 € in Europe only have one usb and the processor is very poor, i only think:” bad future for MBA, for the moment”.
It’s funny how everyone gets so hung up on size comparisons and the fact that the MBA’s great contribution to the world is to be thinner than other laptops. Sure, there’s the whole UMPC vs notebook comparison but we’re really starting to split hairs here – OMG volume comparisons?
James, you *think* your hp is smaller. Go do us a vid of it being slid out of the same envelope as the Air. Then we’ll believe. The Truth Is Out There.

James, please keep up the good work. I have no complaints and am laughing at the picture of JK007 undercover agent taking pics in the store. :)

It was fun :) there was no thingking if it was there or not.
But the main thing here. It is huge!
Comparing/talking about it as umpc makes no sence..
Thanks Alberto. Next time I have an opinion I’ll run it by you first.

Hey James now that’s what am talking about been mobile at moments notice. That was very good for doing a quick post on the go.

“mine’s thinner than yours!” indeed.

The Air is still more powerful thn the Hp. talk about compromises :P
I personally would take the mba as it runs osx. and thats its main appeal for me.
