Mobile tech overload- what’s a geek to do?
You know I’m waiting oh so impatiently for the 17” MacBook Pro to arrive, which should happen this morning according to the FedEx tracking site, but that’s not the only piece of goodness that’s coming to Mobile Tech Manor today. Thanks to the good folks at HP and AMD FedEx tracking also tells me that an evaluation HP Pavilion tx1000 Tablet PC will arrive today, too. For a total mobile tech geek like me this is almost too much lovely tech to arrive at the same time. It violates my cardinal rule of making sure only one mobile device arrives on any given day but this was beyond my control so it’s overload time in a few hours. What do do, which box to open first? What do you think, which would you open first?

Quit rubbing it in! :P On a serious note, I’m very interested about your thoughts on the tx1000 touchscreen. I can I request a video unboxing video or two? :D:D
ps: and aren’t you playing around with an asus R2H as well? Quit hogging all the tech!
oh, I forgot to answer the question…open the tx1000! I’ll cop the flak from all the mac zealots and say that the tx1000 looks a lot prettier :)
Open the Mac first. You do windows products all the time. Time for a change.
My advice to you would be to only open one box and immediately send the other to your friend Phil in Cornwall, UK.
Open the tx1000 and send the Mac back. You know it makes sense! Apple aren’t even capable of making an innovative product like a Tablet or a UMPC.
Open the PC first, because once you open the mac you’ll never touch the PC again. :)
If I could be oppressively pragmatic for a moment: open the Mac first. Yes, you only have a limited amount of time with the HP, but you own the Mac. You need to make sure it’s free of defect, unlike Kevin’s. Then you need to clear it of crapware… oh wait, nevermind. Then there are the OS updates you need to install, which could take… oh, that’s right, you bought yours from Apple… Okay, just open the Mac first and start playing with it, then open the HP when you start to miss pen input.
The Mac won (of course). Brief unboxing post to follow.

James,
Open the Apple and have fun. Send the TX back to HP. That’s what I’m doing with the one I got Friday.
Oops, you need to evaluate it don’t you. I’m sorry about that, I really am.
Interested in your opinion of the TX.
There are reports of problems with the touchscreen amongst other things and an interesting debate here:

I own a tx1000 and it’s a nice piece of hardware, but if you’re more used to UMPC’s, then maybe it’s going to be a disappointment: the tx1000 is heavier than it should be, the touch screen is less sensitive than in the Samsung Q1, etc. But anyway it’s a wondeful laptop, I love mine… Also I have never owned a MacBook but Apple makes great stuff, so although expensive it’ll surely be a safe bet… Regards!
Just got my TX1000 yesterday. Its going back – probably. While its an interesting laptop, its not a tablet. The hand writing recognition is AWFUL.. I’m trying to talk myself into reasons for keeping it, but I dont think so. The touch screen is also really really bad at calibration. Its a joke. Any ideas about how to make the screen work better?
My biggest complaint about these new machines is that they dont live up to the hype. Dont buy one of these without trying them in a store or unless you have a solid return policy. Now I literally have to make excuses to keep it.. very sad.
