Mobile Tech Minutes: Verizon Droid Video
The Verizon Droid is soon to be returned to the kind folks there who sent me this evaluation phone so it’s time for a video look at the phone. The Droid is the Android 2.0 slider that is thin and light, and sports an industrial design bent. In the video I show the responsiveness of the Droid, the hardware and give a feel for the web browsing experience. I also show the camera function, including how long it takes to focus and shoot.
I have been impressed with the Droid, and will be sad to see it go. It is a very capable smartphone compared to the many I have tried. I find it is easily the best phone on the Verizon network currently.

One of my friends got this phone…next time I see her I am definitely going to get some hands on time with this lovely phone.
I’m in the same boat as you. I need to operate this phone to see if I feel the hype. My friend likewise brags about this phone but I haven’t played with it myself. We’ll see…
Since you’ve been impressed with the Droid, does that mean that soon it will be added to your gadget bag? Would the Droid replace one of your phones? I do like my palm Pre, except the battery life of course and lack of good 3rd party software, still webOS rocks for multitasking and ease of use (UI). The Droid sounds tempting but I will wait until it arrives to Sprint. I am also thinking of the HTC HD2 comming soon to us, but the screen might be too big and bigger the screen with bigger specs, lower the battery life will be. Can’t wait to see if you get a hold of the HTC HD2 for a test drive :-)
I would get the Droid today if I qualified for an upgrade. Sadly, I don’t so my Storm is safe for now. The HTC HD2 is sweet and I’d love to get my hands on one of those.
I’ve got an HD2. Although the screen is large the overall device is the perfect size. It’s also the nicest gadget I’ve ever owned :)
Comparing the HD2 to what I saw in James’s video, I noticed that the browsing experience and performance of the HD2 far exceed that of the Droid. The design of the Droid (and all other phones!) seems really clunky as well with the thick bezel. In my opinion HTC Sense is better designed and better organised than the stock home screen interface on the Droid.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the HD2, you are lucky indeed. That fast processor is the best thing out there today, and I have to believe performance would be stellar.
HTC Sense rocks too, as you’ve indicated.
In the video you mentioned the touch sensitive buttons on the bottom and then you said something like they activate different things like you just showed us. You didn’t show us what those four buttons activate. What do they activate?
The buttons are L-R: Back button. This moves back one level no matter what you’re doing. Menu button: This brings up a context-sensitive menu for the active program. Home button: always takes you back to the main home screen. Search button: brings up a search box for searching both on the phone and the web.
I just got my Droid phone! I love it except I am having trouble linking my work email to the phone. I do not use outlook as I am self employed and use the email service provided by GoDaddy.
Any suggestions to help me get this email synced with my phone?
I just upgraded last week and am finding it very difficult to use and navigate. Admittedly, am not technically sophisticated, but either I’m doing some things very wrong or navigating is clunky at best. For example, am still trying to figure out how to get email. Also, the screen seems to have amind of it’s own and simply goes blank at certain times.
Others’ opinions please.
