Mobile Tech Minutes: Sony VAIO P InstantON
I am having a lot of fun playing with the Sony VAIO P ultra-portable notebook. One feature that Sony has included on the VAIO P is the InstantON mode, which lets you boot into a stripped Linux environment without having to boot into Windows. InstantON has a media player that includes a photo viewer, music player and video player for entertainment purposes. There is also a bare-bones web mode that includes the Mozilla web browser, Skype and IM functionality. Take a look at InstantON on the Sony VAIO P to get some insight into what the buzz for these instant-on features that are starting to appear on netbooks and other notebooks is all about. In the video you’ll also see how long it takes to both shut down and boot the VAIO P into Windows Vista.

I had a version of this on the Samsung Q1 UMPC a couple of years ago. It requires two operating systems so its not for the manufacturer that are faint of heart, to create, maintain, and update etc.
Now if a company would make the instant on OS a bit more optimized for business, perhaps instant access to an exchange capable email client, VPN client, some sort of network file browser. Giving you the ability to install firefox on that partition would be good too.
The Linux OS here looks very PS3 like indeed! Which is cool it is Sony after all.
Looks like your Vaio P ate a PSP!
Actually I quite like it.

I can’t help but wonder if the PS3 OS is also linux based.
That would explain why installing linux on it is so easy. It would also explain why sony is keeping that hypervisor on since otherwise PS3 games would play with no problem on the linux side.
Why? I just don’t get it. Hibernate.
