Mobile Tech Minutes– Screencasting My Desktop with QuickTime
The new QuickTime Player in Snow Leopard has added the ability to make screen recordings that are very high quality. They can be shot either with or without audio, and they have full HD resolution. In this screencast I show the programs and utilities that I use every day in my work. Be sure and watch it in full-screen mode to see all of the detail. Enjoy.

That was a great screencast James! I had to laugh when I saw the Red Alert 3 icon in your dock. I didn’t get Snow Leopard because I am still running a PPC. Anyways, it looked great in HD. Thanks again!
Nice Vid! do you know any good apps for sl that i can use to sync my exchange tasks. I lasted about 2 hrs with apple mail not the best integration!
Nice.
Can I assume you’ve moved your calendar/contacts/email to Google? With my Palm Pre, I can use put use the Exchange at work, Google, and with Companion Link, my Outlook at home, and get what I need synced to the right places (occasionally requires some finessing).
I’m amazed at how many people are finding Twitter central to their work. It really hasn’t evolved into anything useful for me, yet.
I’m still using Tablet and UMPC for most of my work, and syncing everything with Dropbox. I can keep the same pages of OneNote up, and have them sync as I work in text or handwriting.
Yes, everything is on Google and has been for a while. It’s the easiest way to keep everything synced, except tasks. I use Remember the Milk for that anyway.
Very nice screen capture. I am looking forward to more of them. I used a tool from Lotus (can’t remember the name of it) years ago to do training tutorials for my end users, it was clunky. Looks like Apple knows what they are doing and glad that feature is now part of free bundle.
very nice! any idea if such a version of quick time is available for windows? this is great to record self driven applications demonstration!
Thanks
I doubt it. Apple has control of the hardware so it’s easier for them to produce video stuff for their systems.
Camtasia from Techsmith was offering their previous version for free. I haven’t checked lately, but it might still be. It had a lot of features, and therefore was a bit complicated, but it definitely did screencasts like this, and you could put a video of yourself talking on part of the recording if you wanted.
No Skype or Adium? Pandora One looks so much better than the last time I ran their Air app like a year ago. What size screen was this on? Looks like it must be large. (Did you ever end up buying that 24″ Apple LCD, I can’t recall?)
I do use Skype a lot, but it’s not necessarily running all the time. We use Google Talk at GigaOM and I usually use that.
Screen is the 24″ Apple Cinema Display running at 1920×1200.
James, do you use, or of know of, anything comparable to Deep Notes for Windows?
No I don’t. There should be many outliners though. Just Google it.
man! i didn’t know audacity for mac was around! thnx!@
