Mobile Tech Minutes: Palm Pre Geek Session
Kevin and I had a geek session today and had a good discussion about the Palm Pre. Kevin may be leaning toward the sexy phone from Palm and shares why he’s thinking a lot about the Pre.

I can’t believe you guys don’t see each other very much. Its very cool but It seems also very hard. Did you guys ever talk about how you both met each other?
I enjoy your chat sessions, you should post more of them. I agree with most of your take on the Palm Pre. I just wish it’s hardware footprint was a little BIGGER (like maybe a 3.5 to 4.0 inch screen and bigger buttons).
AndyT – Actually, I’m glad that it’s not going to be bigger. I think the size looks just about perfect–big enough to browse comfortably, but not so big as to be difficult to put in a pocket, stick on the belt, etc. The iPhone just looks too, well, tall for me. I like the size of my Touch Pro, but the screen is definitely too small. The Pre looks like a good compromise.
I still have my concerns about the Pres small battery size. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t it the same size battery as in the Centro, only in a much more power hungry package?
BTW – go back and look at that video again – he was IM’ing HIMSELF and at the top of the screen, it clearly says the guy was “offline” even though he just showed you that guy was online (~22:00 if I remember correctly). Not that I expect it to be perfect, but it does bring up the questions about “canned”. I have also been reading around and there are conversations from folks that given how it has been demo’ed (no one touches it except Palm folks), that the software may be the problem with getting the Pre to market quickly.
Can you guys explain what software & hardware you use to produce these chats? Is his skype? I notice you no longer use headsets?
We use Skype and record the video with Screenium for the Mac. We both use the internal mics on our Macs which do a decent job.
James,
Thank you.I played around with skype and camtasia today and that seemed to work well. I will probably buy a copy of camtasia and use it. I was wondering your thoughts on multi person web chat, looks like OOvOO is the leader on this front? Any thoughts? Also, wondered what you use when you film yourself solo? Are you using a program or your Flip or other device? I am planning to set up various webinars, etc, to promote to some of my clients and trying to figure the best tech tools. I am sure I am not alone in thinking it would be great for you guys to revist the various methods out there, you guys seem to have it down pat.
