I don’t know anything about Macs but I guess you can run Ecco on it, but that doesn’t solve the issue of how to sync Ecco with an iPhone (or any smartphone besides the Palm Pré for that matter).

I read that OmniOutliner is a good one-pane outliner on Macintosh, although not as powerful as Ecco:

A FREE preinstalled version (just copy from the zip file and run) for those with difficulties installing official release is available for FREE at the eccotools.com board.

oh, and the “default.ect” template fix… that fix comes from my own personal work, the actual fix is available free in both above locations– incredibly the ‘fixed’ version Friedhelm Dohmann is trying to hit you up for $10 annual for is actually corrupted.

There are some programs like “http://www.VMware.com/Fusion” which would allow you to run PC programs on a MAC. This still does not solve your problem to synch EccoPro with your IPhone. The closest you come with using EccoPro with newer phones is when you get the brand-new webOS based Palm Pre.

CompuSol has exciting news for PalmOS and webOS users. Finaly, after 12 years, no more manual editing of the Windows Registry. We updated our EccoPro installation in cooperation with MotionApps to make it compatible with webOS and the new Palm Pre by using MotionApps Classic V2 emulator.

You will find at “http://www.compusol.org/ecco/” a new Windows EccoPro 64-bit installer to complement the EccoPro 32-bit installer for Vista and Windows 7 (also for XP). Both Windows setups are fully automated and will install all necessary registry entries including the Palm conduits and the for Vista and Windows 7 necessary MS Help programs plus the “default.ect” template fix.

I had to give up on Ecco some years back when I could no longer get it to synch with my Palm, but I think I must not have fully understood the process.

I have now, unfortunately, switched to an iPhone, and to say that I’m unhappy with the choice of PIMs would be an understatement, and I’ve certainly never had any love for Outlook, especially because of how it killed Ecco.

So, I may give Ecco another try, as it really and truly never has had a peer.

I may also be switching to a MacBookPro, as well as having to deal with this iPhone, so I’d also be interested in whether or not it’s possible to still run Ecco under either Mac or Parallels or Fusion.

And is it at all possible to synch it with anything remotely reasonable on the iPhone?

There is a brand-new automated installation package at http://www.compusol.org/ecco/ which contains automated installations for users of Windows XP Service Pack 2 or 3 or Windows Vista and Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit who might have problems installing EccoPro with the downloaded 16-bit “setup32.exe” or for users who get the famous “GLBSSTUB” error. The package will install all necessary registry entries plus the “default.ect” template fix.

Have depended heavily upon EP for over 15 years, but just switched to an iMac (for many reasons). Although I still have access to my EP using Fusion, would prefer to migrate it over to the Mac environment if at all possible. Has anyone been able to do that? Thanks.

I love Ecco. I have owned it since Arabesque sold it for Windows 3.1. They sold it to NetManage who developed 4.1. Have added data to it since the beginning and had heard that there was a max size problem in outlines. I reached it last year. Ecco wanted to abend as soon as it initiated. I would get one cut from it to paste into a newly structured data set (more files and flatter with more tabs).
I’ve been to the ecco group sites, but cannot understand how to engage the enhancements. I’d sure like to try ‘em.

R. Hilton - be careful re: the "character assassination" comments about Doug Essinger-Hileman. I don't know the man at all, but have been a long time member of the "eccopro" list, which basically suffered the fate of the original moderator abandoning it, with the supposed spam list harvesting being the result (personally, I've noticed no more than usual). It took some time, but eventually a few folks were able to get Yahoo to re-assign the moderator roles, and that forum seems to be quite active and spam-safe ever since. DURING that interim period, however, I seem to recall someone signing up somewhere as a "Doug Essinger-Hileman" imposter (which would have been quite possible during the heated debates that happened during the no-moderator season), and I vaguely remember seeing posts about that from a few different folks. Likewise, I remember a few people from the "new" group (eeco_pro) trolling like crazy in the original group. So, unfortunately, the net effect was to split the group into a few "watering holes." Find it freaky. Before signing up to the forum listed by “Doug Essinger-Hileman”, did a search of the archive there and at the ‘new’ forum. Turns out Doug Essinger-Hileman has an troubled ethical past a mile long. He is a ‘defrocket’, if that is the right word, minister, and one of the moderators of the site he lists. The files he lists are on a site by another of the moderators, and link back to a third site by another of the moderators, where finally you are hit up for a $10 annual membership fee. BEWARE apparently Doug Essinger-Hileman and the others are allowing email harvesting in the forum he is pushing. The real users group seems to have moved to the “ecco_pro”, with underline between ecco and pro. Looking over the archive of the forum is interesting, as it appears that one or more moderator at the spam harvesting forum tried to steal files created by members of the ‘new’ list, and offer it on his own forum. It’s all in the archives of the new forum. Apparently Doug Essinger-Hileman and/or others with him are also deleting selected archives at the “eccopro” list to coverup the email harvesting scheme they have going.

Just to let you know guys,

I’m in the process of building a tool application named “ListAndChecklist”. The purpose of this application will be “easy management of all kind of list or checklist”.

That is, p.e., like in ecco pro, you will be able to create column “on the fly”. Instead of a “tabbed” interface, an outliner will be used (many “differents lists” in ONE file), which allow user to sort/manage their lists an easy way.

The application is still in early development. I’m a µISVer and feedback from guys like the ones using Ecco Pro is precious to me.

The plan is to release a first public version around october 2007. Beta will be available in a couple of months.

I must be clear that, if the “spirit” of ListAndChecklist will be close to the EccoPro’s one, it is not a “clone” of EccoPro, but maybe its (very) little brother.
