Mac OSX emulation- it’s a Cherry!
A company in Hawaii has introduced software that allows Windows XP users to run programs written for Mac OSX in a full emulation mode. MSX’s Cherry OS (get it?) reportedly runs at 80% of the speed of the host system which is pretty fast for an OS emulator. Cherry OS has complete network compatibility and provides access to all the host’s hardware resources- FireWire, CPU, hard drive, USB, PCI, PCMCIA bus and modem. Cherry OS is available only as an online downloadable purchase for $49.95 and you will need a licensed copy of Mac OSX to use it. This is an incredible boon to users with both operating systems in-house and I can’t wait to give it a try. There are quite a few Mac programs I’d love to run on my WinXP machines. Since this news has appeared on the web the MSX web site has been hammered so it may be a while before you can get in. There is an online demo of the emulator in action but I can’t get it to run yet due to their server being totally swamped.Update: I finally got in to see the demo and it basically just shows Cherry OS being installed and then creating a Mac partition. The Mac OSX installation then starts at the end of the demo. I would appreciate any information that can be provided by anyone who has tried the Cherry OS.

A friend just sent me this link which suggests that the Cherry OS may be a rip off of the Pear Mac emulation project. I haven’t tried either yet so I can’t comment further…..

Here is a link to a CNET news story on the PearPC Mac emulation project from may this year:

Interestingly enough when I went back to the CherryOS site this morning to see if there was a version available for download yet the site seemed to be offline…..????????
Yep, looks like a scam. Fooled a lot of people, too.
I’m not too sure… looks like it could be real, the guy is sticking to his guns and his company DOES have a reputation to live up to… If they end up ******* over like 500’000 people, that’s a large number not willing to pay for their services, and as they say, Person has a good expierience – they tell one person, Person has a bad expierience – they tell five people. As such I make that at like, 2.5 million people, probably more who will know of the company and not trust them ever again…
I can’t get it to work. It’s absolute crap. Tech support is nowhere to be found. Don’t waste your money.
They just raised the price to $100. When will tech support answer my e-mails? I’ll say it again – a garbage product by a garbage company.
