Lenovo W700ds comes to Mobile Tech Manor

Lenovo W700ds
The surprise must have been etched on my face when the FedEx guy dropped off a big box at Mobile Tech Manor this morning. I wasn’t expecting anything and usually the boxes Ralph delivers are small and light, but this box was very big and I struggled to get it into the office.
Imagine my delight to find the biggest laptop I’ve ever seen in person, the Lenovo W700ds. The W700ds is that massive 17-inch notebook from Lenovo with a built-in Wacom digitizer, professional quality color calibration for the screen, er, make that TWO screens. Yes, this Lenovo notebook is the one with a slide-out secondary display that increases screen real estate in a totally new way.
I have to admit that I get so many gadgets showing up at Mobile Tech Manor that it’s not as big an event as it once was but the W700ds has so many features, so much going on under the hood, that I have been frankly overwhelmed since it showed up. It’s a case of not knowing where to begin to investigate with so much there. I’m going to go play now but meanwhile here are some quick pics (after the jump) I snapped of this little beauty. Don’t miss the ~2-pound power brick. The white netbook shown for size comparison purposes is the Lenovo S10.

looks like it’s gatta “tumah” growing out of the side
the closed pic of the S10 on top of it is hilarious, it’s so thick it looks like a briefcase!
So jealous of you right now James. That thing is MASSIVE. Can’t wait to read the review.
James, I’ll be intrested if you could do some tests on how well it handles processor and memory heavy activities like large Photoshop files or video encoding.
While I personally like to have portable machine for everyday use, I and a few friends are looking at getting desktop replacement notebooks for field work for when we need both grunt and mobility, and this really looks like the best possible option.
looking forward to seeing your full review
This is, without a doubt, a huge step in the direction of a new age of portable computer!
