Lenovo ThinkPad X100e Netbook Info
This is not confirmed by Lenovo, but more details about the ThinkPad netbook rumored for a January release have appeared on the web. The ThinkPad X100e is unusual, not just for being a ThinkPad netbook, but for the AMD processor it’s reported to use to run things. The 11.6-inch screen pushes the netbook classification a bit, but the $449 price if accurate is firmly in netbook territory. The specs are very ThinkPad-like, and that dual trackstick/trackpad is definitely ThinkPad material.

Two thumbs up for trackpoint+trackpad. I cannot survive without the “nub” in the center of the keyboard. Probably the first netbook I will take real consideration in purchasing.
Have not owned a system with an AMD processor; I have always assumed they were always worse on battery life compared to Intel but possibly slightly better in performance. It’ll be nice when reviews start to become available.
All in all, probably not the prettiest netbook on the market but certainly may be most functional for laptop nerds like myself and Thinkpad users.
Another thumbs-up for the trackpoint. I love those things.
After doing some research, there are two things about this netbook that need to be addressed.
One: It has a single core processor, a dual core processor is neccessary for my use.
Two: There are no details about the graphics card, which means its probably not Ion. Hopefully Lenovo surprises me with Ion. (Also, no HDMI out.)
The Asus 1201N seems like a better configuration for 50 dollars more. With the 1201N you get ION, dual core processor, slightly bigger screen, HDMI out. No wonder you guys are calling it the perfect blend at a fantastic price point.
The one negative of the 1201N I see is the glossy case, my 1000H gets very dirty, I prefer matte. But reliable and rugged considering the abuse I give it. Asus has the edge with the 1201 here.
Well, since it uses an AMD CPU, hopefully that means it will have an ATI Mobility Radeon GPU, 4000 series likely. This is a plus, I have a bias for ATI.
Seriously, the Trackpoint is a huge seller for me. After a couple months of self-forced usage, I can never go back to a trackpad only. I’ve used it on my Dell 620 and Thinkpad X41T. The convenience and efficiency makes it very valuable, to me. This is one of the reasons I sold off my Asus 900 (aside from horrible Right Shift key.)
Although, I don’t like the trend I am seeing with larger screens. I was hoping Lenovo would have stuck to a 10.1″ screen.
Silly as it sounds, I want a netbook that I can wave around not one that I have to ‘carry’.
Ammmmm.. that’s almost an impulse buy product for my taste!!!
