Laptop Mag- Hands on with the Acer Aspire One mini-notebook
Those folks at Laptop Magazine get their hands on so many of the as-yet-unavailable laptops and mini-notebooks that I have a theory about how they work. I believe that their staff agrees to work for no pay, allowed to live free in their cubicles with full access to the office vending machines, all in exchange for getting to play with all of the coolest laptop toys. That’s my theory anyway. Today they are showing off the recently announced mini-notebook from Acer, the Aspire One. They have published a good initial review with lots of photos and a nice video overview of the Aspire One. This unit looks to me to be a very nice mini-notebook, especially considering its very low price of $379 as reviewed by Laptop. This gets you the Aspire One with the 8.9-inch screen, 8 GB of flash memory, Linpus Linux OS, two USB ports, a 5-in-1 card reader, a SECOND dedicated SD slot that can be used as additional OS memory, VGA out, audio in/out ports and an Ethernet port.
From their review it looks to me that the Acer keyboard is nearly full-sized and reminds me of the HP MiniNote keyboard. This is good news as it should allow for comfortable touch typing in volume. For the price this looks like a very compelling mini-notebook, check out the full review and see if you agree.

Looks like a nice unit. But the name! I had the same problem with the car. Aspire is a VERB!
sbtablet: it ‘aspires’ to be a real notebook? ;) Just like the Ford hatchback ‘aspired’ to be a real car…(as well as aspiring to be a real Ford, apparently :) )
Looks like a Fujitsu P1510 (circa 2005) without the HDD, touchscreen and security features.
