hi Nitin, my parents live in punjab and dont know how to use skype on computer. let me know if this is working well for yous so that i too can send this to my parents. does it needs to be connected to the broadband ? or text me on 780-882-4526 and i wana talk to you about this skype phone

I just sent one of these off to my relatives in India. After connecting it, and setting up their account, they are now able to 'Skype' us without using a computer. This is great for the older crowd, since it is very similar to using a regular phone.

Having that 2nd line as a land line on this is what makes it so compelling. Local calls on the regular phone. Calls overseas via Skype all one one gadget.

I've been in touch with a Skype PR person... Skype provides the software to the OEMs and then verifies integration. So all brands of WiFi Skype phones will have the same software features (and limitations). I am hopeful that a firmware upgrade will include a basic web browser or some method of web-based authentication.

Gork, that's true: if the hotspot requires authentication via the web, you won't be able to connect as there is no web browser in the SPH-101. Would definitely be a nice addition to a second gen of this product.

I bet this won't get on a WiFi network at a Starbucks or a place that charges for access. You'd need a web browser for that.
