Great Review. I also have an hp2710p and totally love it. I had one question though, have you had any difficulty with the screen staying locked down in tablet mode? Mine seems to have some trouble staying locked into position. Any thoughts?

Kevin, that's probably too far out of coverage. How is your standard cellular coverage on the vessel? Is it a rig or a seismic vessel?

JK- Thanks for the reply. I read in one of your more recent blog about HP2710p being able to have AT&T WWLAN. Is that possible to be as fast as the Sierra Air Card881? Ifso, how do I get signed-up for that? If not, is my only option putting the Sierra Air Card 881 into a USB Adapter on a tether, hanging down from my HP 2710p?... other than paying 2x for Verizon, which won't work in International, like Sierra Air Card 881? Or? Thank you!

I got an HP2710p, based mostly on JK's rave review, but there is a problem that I discovered. I want to get the new generation, super highspeed Sierra Wireless Aircard 881PC Card from AT&T (you can use it domestic/international w/ only one card) that they have a special free offer on until 10/30 ($59/mo only), but it's only a standard Type II PC card Format....whereas HP 2710p only has an express card slot. JK or others, is there anything that I can do ? Is there any other card that has equal speed w/ equal pricing ?

URGENT, as I only have few days left.

Thanks

Am in line for changing from my HP 4200 Tablet which I have had for 2 years. A great system chosen after trying others including Toshiba. Bought various extras (docking station, spare battery, 2nd pen etc)and it has given good service including use as a Tablet in court and in police stations. It can be used as a Slate very nicely although with the extra battery fitted can feel heavy. Looking around I have been tempted by the Hp 4400 Tablet but was given a TX1000 to try with Vista. This was very much lighter but slower even though with 2 GIG ram and faster Turnin processors (my HP 4200 has only 1GIG ram). The pen experience was VERY much poorer and in slate mode gave real problems with some ink simply disappearing when used in slate mode. The primary problems i experienced were that the screen being a touch screen and reflective means the point or tip of the pen is very much different from the position in which ink starts. This led to very spidery writing. The reflective wide screen which i assume is to enable more entertainment functions while giving excellent video in the right lighting conditions virtully washed out in sunlight and acted like a mirror with the overhead lights. I tried changing the font size (larger) to make it all more operative but although this helped in one area it made some of the icons very "fuzzy". The 4400 and the 4200 both seem to operate out of the same chassis and both have a very usable track point. I HATE the stick in the middle of the keyboard and have never been able to navigate with it. The point of all this is that having found the tx1000 not to be up to scratch although the addition of a dvd was certainly a feature as was the light weight, is there anything to compete with the usability of the 4200 with a track pad? I was going to try the 2710tp but the stick pointer turns me off. I am a fan of HP because i believe they deal in high quality and i have had 4 or 5 mobiles over the years and beat both Toshiba and Sony in my experience. As a UK user it seems to me the USA users get first try at most new products. We generally convert dollars to pounds in numerical units and tends to make them expensive. Is there another alternative to the 4200 or 4400 which is lightweight carries a track pad and runs faster has a larger hard drive runs Vista Ultimate and is as friendly? Any ideas not yet tried out. Try writing at speed in court or in police interviews and you will gather there is a need to capture good ink. Writing slower and using penrite converts writing to text brilliantly but what has improved in the last 2 years. I am taking the trial of the hp tx1000 back after being given opportunity to trial it and i am after an alternative.

Do you have issues with the pen silo? My pen doesn't seem to want to stay in and it doesn't "click" properly, or at least quite differently than the tc1100. Does yours work like the 1100 and therefore mine is defective? The only other thing is the protective slider over the batt 2 connector, it wont stay closed either. I know you use the 2nd battery a lot, but did you notice this at all? Thanks for your help. I'm so thankful for your reviews, this is the best tablet ever made, even better than my beloved tc.
