Well, a reason for skipping the holiday buying season for a netbook and give an iou instead. The season will probably drain off the existing platform inventory for the masses not aware of the new processor whereas, if released before the season, it may have killed the selloff leaving stores with excess inventory. As the majority of persons would not be aware of the new processor unless siting on the shelf, this approach makes some sense.

It also gives a talking point for CES.

Pineview + Win 7 + built-in WWAN would make a very capable netbook. It would be a shame for Intel to hold the release back further, but it seems the firm has an overstock of N270/N280 chips and is currently using the likes of HP as its clearing house.

If the earliest we can expect to see Pineview units in the retail space is early next year, I would hate to think how far Intel will push back the schedule for Medfield.

I'm seeing very, very slow progress here. And if you compare N450 to the current N280 instead of the older N270, it becomes even more obvious.

That GMA500 is a bit of an issue. Sure, it's the big brother of the exact same GPU in the Palm Pre and the iPhone 3G[s] but Windows, Linux and Mac OS X support for it is very patchy.

This is essentially the same platform that Sony used in the Vaio P. The GMA500 has been a constant thorn for me (and others). The latest Windows 7 RC works better with it but there are still silly things going on at times with the video driver.
