They pushed me over the edge.

I got my new Sony Vaio P (Candy Apple Red) and SE HBH-IS800′s from the SonyStyle store in Seattle today and that along with an upgrade to Windows 7 and an install of Office Communicator 2007 R2 is my new Windows Phone. :-)

Yes gone and done it despite the Gobi chipset being chained to Verizon, sigh… :-(

How come you guys never mentioned the HBH-IS800′s? They totally rule the mobile nest! Happy discovery today, sometimes it pays to shop in real time.

Oh I’ve no doubt that the basic calendar and tasks functionality will still be there and like you having them on a primary screen is important. I am just tired of all of this hoopla about glossy finger friendly front ends without addressing the stuff one layer below it.

Frankly, they need someone else to give these speeches. Ballmer’s voice is abrasive, his gestures too wild and his messages come across as shill.

The Calendar and Tasks options are still there as far as I’ve seen in the screenshots and playing around that I’ve done with the new UI, and frankly, as long as I can have listings of both on one primary screen, I’ll be a happy camper since no other UI does that yet.

As for creation, I can’t really comment on that as the demo I’ve been using is still very much 6.1 at the core.

More important to me…will they do something to make the entire interface more finger friendly? Anyone who has tried to poke and prod a new calendar appointment into a Windows Mobile device using only a finger will back me on this. It’s darn hard and it doesn’t have to be. And if they don’t re-design to this level then how is 6.5 different than any other shell program I can buy today aside from the fact that it doesn’t eat up my RAM?

Steve Ballmer mentioned the demo was partly running on Windows 7. I was watching the live webcast from the Microsoft web site. This was clear when they showed the windows desktop as the new taskbar was visible.
