I currently use an external Huawei E220 HSDPA USB modem connected to my Mac and even though my mobile phone signal is quite weak here, I still get around 2.4Mbps downloads. In areas with better signal strengt, I even managed to get nearly 3.6Mbps, the rated maximum trhoughput on HSDPA networks right now.

Not near a window, inside a brick steel reinforced building, I get 1400 down and 310 up with a Samsung ZX20, USB tether to a Macbook Pro on Cingular.

Darn...your desk it better than mine. (Well, at least situated for greater download speeds) Here in lovely Earth City Missouri (just outside St. Louis), I get around 600kbps down and around 117kbps up.
