Nope, it’s Microsoft — because the specifications will dictate whether the product will come preinstalled with XP or Vista. The limitation was to allow for the use of XP in limited circumstances (on products with less than 1 GB of Ram, 10″ of screen, etc.) despite the official MS push for Vista only rollouts.

Isn’t it Intel’s restriction rather than Microsoft’s?

I am also interested in seeing how this will turn out. The 2140 has been out for a while but I am interested in how they will do with the high rez. Here’s hoping they just wont slap in a Z series atom. (1366 x 768 is what most other Z atom netbooks use)

With Microsoft’s restriction of XP licenses on netbooks with screen resolutions over 1024 x 600, I wonder which of the following will apply to the “high-res” model:

1) It runs Linux
2) It runs Vista
3) HP gives MS the finger
4) MS relents on the XP restriction

Alternatively, I could see HP charging enough that MS would get a “full” XP license amount, which is all they care about anyway.

No matter how ii occurs, the last two items simply maintain the status quo, but I’m curious if those waiting for the higher end model would be put off by either of the first two items?
