The Sony device is significantly smaller than the 2140. The Vaio P has an 8″ 1600×768 display with about 0.11mm dot pitch. By comparison, HP’s 10″ hi-res display has a 0.16mm pitch.

Digitimes published an article a few months ago indicating that HP is working on the 2150 plus 11.6″ and 13.3″ low-cost notebooks as extensions to the Mini-Note family. The 11.6″ and 13.3″ models will possibly use the Intel Menlow platform.

The 10″ hi res display in the HP 2140 is a good trade off between portability and legibility. The dot pitch is about 0.16mm compared to 0.15mm in the 8.9″ HP 2133 and Fujitsu P16xx.

Saw hi-res on the Sony Vaio P and while it’ll be swell as a HD-DVD player, the squintability factor of fonts (and as they vary from program to program) combined with a small screen seem to make the device fairly useless – and even more of an issue than a small keyboard. I can’t see how this improves with the HP or Dell.

Unless, of course, manufacturers include a large magnifying glass on a flex – like on the computers in “Brazil”. Though that might adversely affect the portability….

I am getting mine on Friday, but I currently have the Dell Mini 10 with the HD display and I would suggest everyone to not even waste their time with a standard notebook. the Dell keyboard doesn’t compare to the 2140, the screen isn’t as bright, runs slower, gets very hot and has terrible battery life. If I couldn’t have the 2140 I would definately take the Mini 10 over any other netbook. The build quality is excellent and is very thin. I will try to put up a YouTube comparison once I receive the 2140. By the way, they both run Windows 7 with no problems.

I just got one of these last week, and I love it! I had a Toshiba P1620 (8.9″, 1280×768) and found that screen/resolution combo to be just a little too small for me. This, screen however is awesome. Plus the keyboard is tough to beat for a netbook this size.

I calculate the pixel size is about .17mm.
So a 6 point font character would be 1 mm high?
I hope there is an error in my calculation.
