THANKYOU!

I somehow messed my iPod up resulting in the files still being there, but only being readable by iTunes, not my iPod (it was claiming there was no music when I had 6000 songs worth).

Mines an 80gb classic bought in xmas 2007, so you don't need to worry about this method being outdated.

Anyway, I now have music saved in my library AND backed up elsewhere AND all the identifier tags are in place too.

Now I can proceed to reset my iPod and get all my music back on within one night. Fantastic.

Great post. Thanks!!! :-)

Remember to change the folder permission. Removed the READ ONLY option to IPOD_CONTROL and add the folder to iTunes should work.

Thanks !!!! I made the backup CDs and one wouldnt work so I lost all of the music from that disc to the last disc until I found your instructions and got all of my files back. When I made the backup CDs knowing I was changing computers ITunes didnt even indicate one was bad as I was making them so I cant tell you how much your instructions helped. THANKS AGAIN.

thank you for all the tips...
I have 1 more to add...
concerning: "if you are having trouble adding the folders that held all your songs in the itunes control folder."

Typical solution:
adding 1 file at a time, which can mean 200 songs.

Quick fix:
1)go into one of the folders under ipod control>Music> F01 (example)

2)now select all those songs and copy them to a new folder somewhere on your desktop (later you can move it to wherever you want)

3) repeat for each subsequent folder in the ipod control folder.

4)Now once that is all done. open itunes and add the folders that you have just created. Voila!

*extra tip if you copy all the songs from that ipod control folder into 1 file on your desktop that can cut down on time as well.

**one warning..try not to delete that new folder! you can move it just don't delete it or else itunes will not be able to use the link.
