That’s true, and I must admit that I always carry a spare battery for that (and an AC adapter if I foresee an intense day). I think I’m not just enough of a mobile warrior to appreciate that 30% more.

As for the subscription, considering the average netbook life I don’t see it as a complete downside. The perpetual license could be an option as well.

Anyway, on with the sleep/hybernate crusade, I’ve almost converted my gf…

Absolutely correct and a good strategy, but how does it gain the 30% longer run-time that Hyperspace offers? That’s the benefit over sleep mode of Windows, IMO.

May look impressive at first (not with this build actually), but is it really that useful?

I can resume my TC1100 from 2005 (running win 7) from sleep (1% battery drainage per hour) in 2 secs. It connects to my wireless almost instantly.

Just teach people how to make a good use of those hideous hybernation and sleep features…and that’s it!

The HyperSpace software is a joke.
It does not load faster than windows on lean / clean box

It has MANY issues with newer hardware, as any linux install does.

it does not ID most boxes correctly in the hybrid / daul testing.

I installed on 6 boxes no one showed any increase in boot time.

The forum admin deletes post about the app
You must rerun the installer to uninstall the app and use a third party tool to repartition your drive to get back the 3 gig partition it created.

I agree with Mr. Cohen…a fee is ridiculous. I would MAYBE pay $60 for a perpetual license (which is pushing it as it is), but no way is that going to come out of my wallet yearly, as cool a thing as this is.

Tried and failed on my MSI Wind / Akoya Mini. Althought the installer claims the Dual version would run on the netbook, it is unable to boot into HyperSpace after installation. Very important: the faq claims that you can remove it like any other Windows application > wrong. There is no uninstaller and it does not show up under software in Windows. I had to run mbrfix to sort it out.

Asus’ instant linux option on the EEEPC and EEE box does this in a simpler way.

You’re missing the connectivity options and upgrades but it is paid for with your purchase of the machine.

I already have a laptop that I can open and shut the lid and it comes on and hibernates instantly and has considerably longer battery life than most. It’s called a MacBook Pro.

Eventually, this kind of solution will no doubt be available for free. I mean, how hard can it be to add a small browser application that may optionally be started instead of the main OS? This is something that elderly DOS programmers should be able to do :) Or, dual bootloader developers.

I was very interested in this, but lost interest when I discovered it was a subscription deal. Its is simply too expensive for “netbooks” when you consider their cost. I also don’t like this type of pricing model.
