why do you need a magnetic flap after all?! there are so many alternative solutions for this problem… for example here:

i don’t like the idea to combine magnets with electronic instruments, when it is not necessary!

It says right on the iPhone 3Gs website (in little gray letters) that the compass may be affected by nearby magnetic fields.

Makes sense that a magnet in the case, so close to the phone, would be one of those fields.

My son had a nokia slider and it used a magnet and detector to tell when the slide was open. When he put it in a mag case it activated the keyboard with obvious results.

Back on subject … I just got a new belt case the other day and did my 3GS UG today…dang!

Very interesting info about the magnetic cases. Seems the 3gs is having its share of issues there seem to be a rash of moderate to extreme overheating issue stories popping up on the net. http://gizmodo.com/5303135/white-iphone-3gs-overheats-to-the-point-of-discoloration

Actually, I wouldn’t use a magnetic case for ANY phone. My dad used one that attached to his belt a while back with a Verizon CDMA phone, and when it was in the case, the phone would not wring, due to the magnet. Not quite sure why, but once he realized what was causing his missed calls, he was much happier.
