Glucose monitoring watch- I want one
Diabetics will tell you anything, ANYTHING that makes dealing with the chronic disease easier is a very good thing. Glucon, a developer of glucose monitoring devices, has been granted a patent for a method of constant level monitoring using photoacoustic waves in blood vessels. The flagship product the company intends to launch using this new method of monitoring is a digital watch / meter that constantly checks the glucose level in the bloodstream.
Glucon’s flagship device, the Glucose Monitoring Watch, will display a continuous reading of the patient’s real time blood glucose level, enabling the patient to take the necessary measures to treat their condition. It will do so by marrying two proven scientific tools – photonics and acoustics. Ultrasound imaging is employed to identify a blood vessel and optical spectroscopy is used to quantify the glucose concentration within the blood vessel.
"Glucon has broad protection around the application of photoacoustic techniques for the measurement of physiological variables. Our prototype is currently undergoing extensive clinical testing, which thus far has produced promising results. We are also in the midst of upgrading the current prototype to be more mobile, flexible, stylish and comfortable,” said Glucon president Ron Nagar.

I test 4-6 times a day, and have been insulin dependant since I was 16 and am now 63.

I really would like to know how I can obtain one of these glucose watches. I am a school teacher, and I live in Yokosuka, Japan. The US Naval Hospital does not support the insulin pump so I need to have some method that will help me to know when my blood sugars go low. I have been having troubles with my diabetes since I have moved here to teach, and I have had some extremely low blood sugars that have dropped my body temps to as low as 92.5 degrees. As well as the danger of that, my blood sugars drop so unexpective that I may drop to unconsciousness. It scares me as well as my 6th graders.
With this new monitoring, I can have prewarnings that I desperately need. Will insurance companies such as Blue Shield cover these monitors if your doctor prescribes it. My doctor, Dr. Storlie is trying to help me out since they do not support insulin pumps here at the Naval Base hospital.
Any info would be super!

I’ve been a type 1 diabetic for over 6 years now. My old endocrinologist tried the watch, as a trial, and explained to me that he like it and would definitely recommend it to his patients. Myself, being one of his old patients, would love to know how and where I may be able to purchase one of those glucose meter wrist watches. Not only would it help me monitor my levels closer, but it would also help to take a lot of stress off of my shoulders, especially being only 20yrs old and a full time college student. Hi everyone,i am a type 1 diabetic and have been for the last 9 years,my blood sugar control is altogether very good.My problems come at the night time when because im asleep obviously i cant test my sugars so sometimes have really bad hypos.As like any diabetic,it is a constant struggle to continuously monitor blood sugar readings throughout my day,im a carpenter and use power tools,nail guns,saws etc all day long and being a diebetic can prove to be sometimes dangerous.Diabetics partners also feel this struggle 10x as much as we do because they have to get our sugars back to normal levels and once a week might be ok but every night is a very big problem!!!!!!! This gluco watch idea sounds like the best thing since sliced bread to me and would help every diabetic immensly in maintaining a stable blood sugar level all day and night long helping everyone lead a normal life,at the moment cost of these things seems to be my biggest problem,im hoping blood glucose monitoring systems manufactures are working day and night on this because this early in the game there is a hell of a lot of money can be made so listen up and get busy!!!!!!! I have a son who is about to turn 6. He has been type 1 for about 3 1/2 years now and although his blood sugars are well controlled the watch would be a great addition to pricking his finger tips. I have looked at some makes but are to large for infants. Does anybody know where the Glucon watch can be purchased and the approximate cost. This looks a great product and I am sure would sell well.

i was wondering how i may go about getting one? we have miltary insurance, and my wife finds this to be alot easier for her to monitor her glucose levels. they range from 300-500, so this would hopefully put a dent in this situation.

I tracked down as much information on the current blood testing watches. There appear to be two from what I can find. Here is a rough outline of their info.

Description: Displays an average of the blood sugar levels from the previous 10 and 20 minutes. Does not display current blood sugar levels, which means it isn’t a replacement for normal finger prick testing. The blood sugar levels given by this watch are useful for helping to track the wearers daily and nightly highs and lows to help in better insulin management.
Accuracy: They state that the accuracy may vary depending on a number of variables like perspiration and length of skin contact. The watch needs to be calibrated using a normal finger prick testing kit. I am unsure how often it requires calibration.
Price: Unknown, You have to contact them
Availability: Currently Available, Direct Order Only
Additional Materials: “Glue” for the skin contact point. The data graphing and tracking software costs extra.

I have been checking other instruments as well as the Glucon watch. The best one seams to be the Glucon watch. I believe this because:
1. It doesn’t require pasts.
2. Others require rest periods from irritation at contact site.

I am a type 1 insulin dependent diabetic. I am insulin dependent for over 40 years now and I now I am brittle. I am on Hemo dialysis now because of the diabetes. I am very hard to regulate and I have no signs or symptoms of low or high blood sugars.I will need a watch like this for both the day and night time monatoring.. I am disabled and i am on a limited fixed income. How can I obtain a couple watch’s for the day and for the night? Currently I test by finger sticks 10 to 15 times a day to make sure I am ok and to be safe to myself and others around me.

Im from New Zealand and I read the comment about the gluco watch being rebranded as the gluco band. I googled both and the gluco band currently is’nt available and is produced by someone entirely different (available without prescription when released), Whereas the gluco watch is avilable with approval from an diabetes professional(when a prescription is issued).

I am a Type 1 diabetic that is using a insulin pump. My sugars range from extreme lowes in the 20 range all the way up to, well last time in the hospital they were 786. I am in search for a monitor just like this! I need constant monitoring because despite my efforts my sugars are all over the place. The doctor tells me my body still hasn’t adjusted from the flu I got that shut my pancreas down. This disease is AWEFUL and has effected every aspect of my life and my families. Diabetic Type I for over 39 years (I contracted Diabetes when I was 6 months old). This is great news for anyone who needs to monitor their blood glucose levels. Having to prick your finger 3 or more times a day can definately be a barrier wanting to do it everyday.
I hope this product becomes widely available and that major insurance carriers subsidize the device as they do with many other meters on the market. It would be cool if they partner with a company like Sinovo who makes glucose monitoring software that runs on PC’s and mobile devices. To be able to sync data from the watch to my mobile device via BT would be an awesome addition to the functionality of the watch.

For those who were wondering about the glucowatch. I do not advise getting it. I tried it for a couple of weeks. It misses about 1 out of every 3 readings. Also, it left to red marks on my arm from where the low power electricity enters the arm. I believe that the technology in this watch is more promising. I cannot believe that there are not more realistic attempts to produce glucose watches. With about 3 million Americans who are diabetic, demand for the product would not be short lived. If anyone knows anything about this product, please post it.

Hello, I am a 33 heart transplantee (10 years ago) who is wating for another heart transplant and a kidney too! I have diabetes mellitus and am finding it hard to accurately control my sugars as of late. I am a very proactive guy and so I find it disconcerning. Hello, my son and 2 nephews are all Type 1 Diabetics, who test their blood 3-6 times a day. They would love to be able to decrease that amount if not eliminate testing all together. Hi, I have been searching for a blood glucose watch like this for so long I was almost giving up but I am in desperate need to know where I would be able to buy one from. I have been diabetic now for 24 years since the age of 11 and it’s getting to a point where Im testing so often Im running out of area’s to test & also as my bloods have been up & down it’s causing a lot of problems in my life – Temper is getting better of me & it’s having a massive effect on mine, my partner & families lives as well as in work. PLEASE help me locate one of these monttors.

hi, i would give up my right arm just to have one for my mom. i’m also a diabetic but this is not about me. my mom, she goes to church almost everyday, when her health permits. she sometimes pass out in church not knowing what had happen and had to rush to the hospital several times. sometimes we come home from church and found her on the floor passed out. she takes insulin. her blood sugar goes way up or way down with no warning. i now live far away from her, hoping to change my life for the better and will move her here and live with me so it will be less stress on me from worry about her health. i will give my right arm if have to, i don’t know what i’d do if something happens to her and god forgive me, i will do what ever it takes to have one. thank you kenny
