The HSDPA speed claims are ringing true based on Mauricio’s real-world testing in New Zealand. The screenclip below shows the blazing speed provided by Vodafone NZ: 1445 kbps down and a tad under 100 kbps up.
Later testing closer in on the coverage area yielded the same download speeds, but increased the upload by about three times. How does this compare to my EV-DO testing on Verizon’s network? Here’s a refresher:
Yikes! I’m starting to look forward to that EV-DO Rev. A rollout we keep hearing about….

We’re starting to get some coverage with T-Mobile here in the UK as well but it’s still a bit sketchy at times.
The most I’ve recorded on a test is 1.2 megabits per sec but some are getting 1.4 on a regular basis.
By the way, this is the initial speed. Vodafone NZ says that speeds will be updated across the network to 3.6Mbps (up from the max 1.8Mbps at launch) before xmas.
The official service launch is 12 September.
