I just got this Gateway Tablet PC. I read how “the intelligent dual digitizer automatically deactivates the touch screen when the pen gets close to the screen.” It ain’t happenin. As soon as my hand touches the screen it goes all wacko and tries to connect the tip of the pen with the side of my hand. Yuck. I even fooled around with the sensitivity and palm check settings. Nothing helped.

How can I set it so that the ONLY input device is the tip of the pen? Any ideas, anyone? My e-mail is ffeldon@coastline.edu. Thanks! Fred

This is a fairly cute machine (I have one in front of me right now). The 360 swivel is a bonus compared to competitive models from Toshiba and Lenovo. The Gateway reps I talked to did not know what the 120X would be sacrificing to drive the price point down for consumers. It doesn’t fix some of the fundamental problems we have with all the tablets, which is unfortunate (screen rotation for projecting, for instance).

Bluetooth connectivity to the port replicator is a nice touch, as is them finally going with the Wacom-style pen. Having the VGA port on the side is also nice.

So many choices, so little time to make the decision….

Apparently the gottabemobile team will receive a demo unit in a few days… ;)

Yeah, I thought the price is kind of high as well when compared even to some other convertible tablets but I am really hoping James can shed some light on what to expect in the lower priced model.

With the push of UMPCs and the Intel announcements, I would think OEMs would start to take a serious a look at how much these things cost before declaring an $1,800 + unit as “affordable.”

OEMs can charge whatever they want for their products but don’t blame the market if it doesn’t sell because you priced it too high.

Didn’t Gateway used to be that sweet spot between features and cost? A solid performer that didn’t break the bank?

Despite all of that, I REALLY like the specs, looks and features on this tablet and am waiting for James to reply to know if I can cross all of the other choices off my list while waiting for the more affordable (at least for me) model in May.

So I guess Gateway is making a mistake here stating it is for education (although it remains a nice laptop).

Do you know what the difference will be for the new model in May? No imbedded optical drive perhaps?

I really like the unit but don’t “need” a fixed optical drive and if the one coming in May doesn’t have that feature but everything else (or close to it) I’ll wait and save myself a couple few hundred dollars.

Any deets that you are now able to share?
