Games that work on the UMPC
Portable computers are usually not the best devices to play games but owners still like to get jiggy with it from time to time. The Origami Project team has done some very informal testing to see which games work and don’t work on the Origami platform and have posted the list for all to see.
Games that work:
- Microsoft Links 2001
- Microsoft Zoo Tycoon 2
- Baldur’s Gate II: The Collection (Shadows of Amn & Thorne of Bhaal)
- Madden NFL 06 with Bonus!
- Sims 2
- World of EA Sports 04 – Golf
- World of EA Sports 04 – NBA
Games that don’t:
- Microsoft Age of Empires II: Gold Edition
- Microsoft Zoo Tycoon Complete Collection
- Bungie Halo: Combat Evolved
- Microsoft Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna
- Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi
- Half Life 2
- Tony Hawk’s Underground 2
- World of EA Sports 04 – NHL
- World of EA Sports 04 – Nascar
- Worms 4 Mayhem
Note there are many factors to gameplay on devices like the Origami so your mileage may vary with your particular hardware. Also note that since Origamis lack an optical drive you might need some sort of virtual drive program to load the game onto the hard disk. If anyone has information to share about games that either work or not add them to the comments so others might save a little time.

Hi, I got a few games working but im only kindered by the amount of buttons i can map. I find it near impossible to quit a direct 3d game as i dont know a way to map “escape” as a key
Ok games that i tested that work:
Dethkarz – Works in 640×480 silky smooth!! (however i can only map a few buttons ie steering, accel, fire, deploy power up, and if you have no keyboard there is no way of pressing escape!!
Mame: Works great on many games from Street fighter zero – metal slug (again hindered by only being able to use 2 buttons
Snes9x: works great on all games but same as above
I forgot, it would help to know what UMPC you are running the games on.
oh my above post is trying games on a samsung q1
Update:
GTA SAN ANDREAS doesnt work.
If they don’t work because of the resolution, you can try forcing them to run in window mode. 3d-Analyzer is a good program for that.
Hmm i need a small bluetooth keyboard and mouse!!
Working Perfect: Max payne 2 on the samsung q1 at 800x480x32 max detail with no aa the game runs like butter!!
You can’t be serious, Age of Empires II doesn’t work? I even got that game to run on a Sony VAIO Picturebook, running at 1024×480, 400Mhz! Why is it not working?
Also, Jahan Khan Rashid: Try running GTA: Vice City. I tried both Vice City and San Andreas on my U50, and while they both work, Vice City runs like a charm at 800×600, while San Andreas was stuttering, even at 640×480… Might work?
ok another update:
Ifyou edit the ini for ut2004 to 800×480 the game runs great!!! Probably about 20-30fps on high detail on the samsung q1
Tomb raider legens works but choppy even at lowest detail.
does any MMo’s work like
Maplestory http://www.mapleglobal.com
runscape http://www.miniclips.com
I hope Maplestory works.
and maplestory is free to play and everthing it should be no problem
it only needs like 300Mgz
runescape 2 works!!!
Thanks for bringing this thread up; I’d made a discovery recently that folks might be interested in.
There’s a little game out there called The Ur-Quan Masters… you might remember it better under it’s original name “Star Control”. Well, it’s now ported over to XP and available as a free download! I can play it on my Q1 without any external devices, too, though alas it doesn’t support the touchscreen.

It’s incredibly fun for a 14-year-old game.
