Fujitsu’s sub-three-pound P8010 notebook clears FCC
Fujitsu’s LifeBook P8010 might not be uber-thin, but it’s still light enough to carry all day at 2.7 pounds. And while we’re all having a good discussion on battery life in mobile devices, Fuji is laughing at us thanks to the claimed 6.5 hours of juice in the P8010. Looks like they’re keeping a lid on the power consumption with an LED backlight for the 12.1-inch display plus a Intel ULV Core 2 Duo traipsing along at 1.2 GHz. Fujitsu indicates a starting price of $1,699 and word on the street is that we’ll see these available next month.(via Small Laptops and Notebooks)

Although there have been comparisons between the Fujitsu P1620 tablet and the Mac Book Air, I think the P8010 will be a more direct competitor to the new Apple. The MBAir is still thinner, has a larger display, and a faster processor than the P8010. However, the Fuji will provide longer battery life, a replaceable battery, internal DVD drive, more USB ports, a smaller footprint and lighter weight.
Hopefully Fuji will but some marketing push behind the P8010 introduction and take direct aim at the Mac. It will be like comparing apples to, uhh, different apples.

this laptop is actually very interesting. it is the successor to Fujitsu’s very successful P-series 5000/7000/7100/7200 (main rival to Sony T-series TR/T/TX/TZ). the main difference being those Fujitsu’s all had 10.6″ screens. Fujitsu managed to make much more efficient use of the extra bezel space & fit a 12″ screen in nearly the same size package.
i would go with the JP press statement as Fujitsu of America is much more reserved, this laptop should be able to get in the range of 7 hours quite easily. the extended battery will bring it up only to 2.9lbs & get a whopping 11 hours. these are all real world numbers (wifi on, surfing, etc). the battery benchmark numbers will be much higher 9hr/13hr (but nobody goes by those).
i doubt Fujitsu would even attempt to market the P8000 at the MBA. what people have to understand is, Fujitsu is a “grown up” company. they dont rely on flashy marketing gimmicks, but instead their stellar reputation in the business world. they make small, lightweight, feature packed, long battery life, ultraportable laptops aimed at adults & professionals.
the MBA might be pretty, but it is quite large, nearly featureless, weak battery life. it is a laptop more designed towards the young hipster market as a fashion accessory, not a “serious” computational device for mature adults or professionals.
Seems to have a similar screen to the t2010(?) Wonder if there will be an indoor/outdoor option like on the T2010…
