Fujitsu Netbooks Hit U.S. Shores
Fujitsu makes some great notebooks, and it’s been making netbooks for some time. You may not have been aware of that, as the company has refused to sell them in the U.S. — until now. Word has come out that Fujitsu has started selling the 10-inch M2010 netbook in the U.S., and it is available for ordering online now. The M2010 starts at $449, which gets you a full configuration, but a six-cell battery will cost you some extra bucks — $129 to be exact.

Fujitsu used to sell the older P7000 and P5000 series notebooks that were 10″, but they dumped that screen size a while ago. These were really great machines to have. I remember a friend of mine bought a P5000 model back in 2003 and was all over the thing because he was so impressed with it.
I don’t think I would trade a P5000 or P7000 for this newer M2010, but if performance in a small size is important, my choice would rather be a Sony TT at 11″.
I have a P5010D (bought in 2002) that still rocks… a little bit long in the tooth, power cord connection is intermittant, some cracks in the case where my kids dropped it.
I went shopping for a replacement recently, and was shocked that I couldn’t find a reasonably priced alternative. The size is so convenient… and the only way to get it today is with an underpowered netbook.
You can get a 15″ screen laptop for $450, but going down to a 10-11 inch screen will cost close to $2000.
