Freeware of the Moment- Paint .NET 2.5 RC2
Paint.NET is simply the best free alternative to Photoshop and the recently released version 2.5 Rc2 earns it a repeat spot on my Freeware of the Moment list. The developers have added so many new features to this new version that it would require a very long list so you should just go look at the Paint.NET web site. Here’s a partial list:
- Much faster performance and lower memory usage
- Full flexibility for scaling, rotating, moving, and modifying selections and selected pixels
- Internationalization (I18N) support
- Officially available in German
- Curve tool
- Full support for working with measurements in inches and centimeters
- 3D Rotate / Zoom effect
- Radial Blur and Add Noise effects
- Sepia adjustment
- Improved Text Tool, including higher quality font rendering
- GIF transparency support
- TGA file format support
- Greater extensibility with a brand new File Format API
- Simpler, faster setup wizard
- Update manager simplifies getting the latest version
- Cleaner user interface with none of the annoying flickering of past releases
This program quite simply rocks!

For myself, I’m not touching anything based on .net technology (aside from at my workplace, where I cant avoid it or do some experimenting with).
It’s unstable, laggish, heavy, and basically sucks. :) It’s exactly like JAVA for windows!
