Freeware of the Moment- Pandora desktop
We’ve covered free Internet radio service Pandora many times as both Kevin and I love the intelligent way it learns what music we like. I know that both of us have resorted for some time to using third party interfaces for Pandora to escape the need to keep the browser open all the time and while that’s worked pretty well I am happy to report that the Pandora folks have released their own free desktop client. Pandora desktop is an Adobe Air program that makes for a nice interface to your Pandora music and your personal music stations. It works just like the web version and minimizes to the system tray when you want to get it out of your way. Best of all the desktop app runs on both Windows and Macs so you can install it on all the systems you use. Marc Cohn, anyone?

On the Mac, I couldn’t use other Pandora clients effectively because minimizing them stops the music once the current track is played. I had to Hide the window as a workaround. No such problem with the Air client and the contextual menu when right-clicking the Dock icon is great. Resizing of the app is a must though… everything is so big!
Unfortunately those of us living in the caribean can no longer enjoy pandora thanks to the wonderful folks of the RIAA.
With thoughts in line with vm-01 I have to say…
As much as I enjoy Walking In Memphis… My geographical distance from, well, Memphis (or any part of the states for that matter…) means I can’t really use Pandora.
Thanks James. As with a jillion other worthwhile sites, I had forgotten Pandora. This little hint is typical of why we like JKOTR so much…the stuff we want to know about PLUS occasional stuff we’re happy to discover.
I don’t understand why it’s only for US users. I’ve just recently discovered that I can now listen to UK BBC radio over the internet (I missed Radio 2 especially). Are we Europeans more sensible when it comes to fair use?
