Verizon’s Song ID service does the same thing. You have to have a VCast enabled phone, but it worked well for me in the past. Just a tip for those of us who haven’t hopped on the iPhone bandwagon.

That is, IMHO, is the single best free application for the iPhone so far. I cannot even recount now how often I used it since I downloaded it from App store. Moreover, I often use it to tag songs that I know, just to have a reminder for later, so that I remember to buy it when I have time (and WIFI)

My wife serves the same purpose. The nice thing? She can do it even in the dessert with no network connectivity. The bad thing? She also knows all the lyrics and will proceed to sing along ;)

Skip — what’s that? Can’t download songs via 3G? What other limitations are there as to what you can do with 3G vs. WiFi on this wonder gadget? (I know about the VOIP app only working with WiFi)

I was in a Taco Bell on Friday for lunch and while gorging on my Chalupa, I heard this nifty song coming through the speaker mounted in the ceiling about 12′ away.

I whipped out my iPhone and pressed my Shazam and proceeded to TAG IT. I pointed the iPhone at the speaker (that drew a few looks) and it gave me and stored the results and that nite I bought it on iTunes.

Gotta love the iPhone!

Only wish I could have downloaded it right there but iPhone/iTunes store needs WIFI and not just 3G to get a song.
