Free WiFi in Philly airport, EVDO is better
I was happy to find that ATT has free WiFi at our gate in the Philadelphia International Airport as we got here pretty early for our flight. It didn’t take long to realize that you get what you pay for as the WiFi bandwidth was pretty poor at best:

That upload speed is phenomenal but with the download speed so slow it takes way too long to get to the upload part. I popped in my Verizon USB EVDO modem and saw an immediate improvement:

That’s more like it. :)

Can simply be that the download part is swamped by users checking mail and web…
While both wifi and EVDO is a shared medium, there will probably be less users of EVDO and therefor more available space.
Lets not forget that wireless connections are more like ethernet before switches became commonplace.
You must have had the wifi card in upside down.
“You must have had the wifi card in upside down.”
Good one :)
What do you use to measure your download/upload speeds?
Looks like Speakeasy.com
Oopps, meant speakeasy.net
Too bad ya can’t use the WiFi upload and the EVDO download.
Well there is only so much bandwidth in wifi and if it’s free presumably lots of people will be using it.
That is even supported by the higher upload speed… fewer people uploading than downloading at any given time.
