Four bars of EV-DO is true sweetness
I am at the Houston airport waiting for my flight to board and getting some work done while waiting. I am using the Verizon BroadbandAccess Network to tap the EV-DO to get online. I use the EV-DO a lot and the past five days with no power at home due to Hurricane Ike I have just about worn my Verizon modem out. One thing that strikes me here is how fast the network is with a full four bars of signal strength at the airport. It feels just like broadband and the reason it is so impressive to me, no stranger to EV-DO, is because I have used it exclusively at my house as I mentioned. I only have one to two bars of signal in my house and had gotten used to the not too shabby speeds with that low signal strength. I had forgotten how fast the network is with good signal and it’s blowing me away here in the airport. I am also relishing sitting in a place that has electricity (and thus air conditioning) for the first time in five days. :)

I use Vodafone HSDPA and apart from the difference in download speed, generally find it compares very well to my home Cable connection.
Hope things turn around for you, (my parents, and everyone else stuck in Houston) recovering from Ike. I know how wonderful the modern “conveniences” feel when you get them back after they’re conveniently taken away from you.
Have a safe flight!
