Lenovo's Ideapad Y510 shipped with defected audio drivers, which is why they no longer sell the Y510. To get all the speakers working, don't install Lenovo's audio drivers, instead go to Realtek and install their audio driver R2-19, as it works.

As for the Lenovo's Y650, can anyone confirm the audio speakers working, all five of them (4 speakers and a subwoofer). The Y510 subwoofers never came with a frequency rolloff, meaning full range sound goes to it also... making the right side of the notebook sound louder...

Also, does anyone know why the Y650 comes with a WHITE keyboard, as when watching movies, this bright color will reflect up on the GLOSSY monitor screen!!!!

Why doesn't the Y650 come with an all BLACK finish, so as to enable better viewing of the monitor screen display?

The lower screen resolution would be better with Windows XP, for viewing most software applications too.

Reason is, in XP, you can elect to use larger font dpi, which doesn't effect video display, but insures for older individuals very much easier reading when looking at applications, like Outlook, Word, Firefox, etc...

VLC can playback them blueray converted over videos, provided the 2GHz CPU can keep up... On the Y510 only 720p can be played back... 1080p isn't supported on the Y650 either, as for the screen resolution limitation too.

I would like to have two hard drives in Lenovo's Y650 model... one for the operating system using a SSD hard drive (64GB) and another 500GB hard drive for memory storage of videos, documents etc...

SSD is faster, doesn't have drop issues, bumps when in use, and uses less power, so making battery life longer...

Filemate is SSD that has esata and sata-2, with a mini USB. It's good for 2 million writes, as compared to traditional 1 million for typical hard drive, etc...

hope this helps Lenovo to better design their notebooks and potential customers...

Yes there is a button but it doesn't work. I am returning this unit to Lenovo as I believe it is defective. They should send out another one so I can continue the evaluation. It's a sweet notebook without this problem.

I'm pretty sure that someone said there is a button in between the mouse buttons that disables the trackpad. Am I wrong? Still not an ideal solution though.

Thanks for the review - you're one of the 1st to have reviewed this machine. I need to pick up a new laptop soon, and this one was on my list given it's light weight, large screen, and the large touchpad, not to mention the great price. I have the same concern regarding touchpads that you mention - accidentially triggering it with your palms. That plus the lower than appropriate screen resolution has made up my mind to look elsewhere. Keep up the good work!

That's a dreadful resolution on such a big screen. I even think that sort of resolution is too low on a 12" screen (my 2730p with its 12" screen runs at 1280x800 and I'd happily see that bumped up to 1600x1050). Laptop resolutions have really suffered since the switch to widescreen.

Anyway, if it weighs more than about 1.5Kg it's not mobile in my book :)
