Feh. CompUSA — which looks like it’s on its last legs — didn’t have any HTC to fondle. Not even a fekkin box to look at!

Nope, I said I’d carry a UMPC over the Foleo. The Shift is a very sweet device that seems to have all bases covered. Since it’s dual processor I would suspect you could load WM apps no problem, but it’s hard to tell from his video.

I see. So even the Shift is something you’d consider too large for your current portability joy?

Just saw the complete Ortega vid. Man, I want that thing!! That’s really the best-looking thing I’ve seen. The two OSes (is that really WinMob in there? It can have apps installed?), the slide-up/tilt screen with keyboard. Plus a stylus! It just makes the Samsung Q1U look like a clunker!

As for the Advantage, I just compared its price to the low-end Raon Everun. The Everun would be a better value for me for the $.

But the Shift is what I want.

Mike, I have no interest in the Foleo due to its size. If I had a desire to carry a laptop sized device I’d carry a real UMPC instead.

Hugo Ortega seems to have trumped you. I got about 15 minutes into his HTC Shift video before it crapped out on me (re-d/l underway). Just from the point of his turning it on, I was already drooling.

I’ll still probably fondle the Advantage, but that Shift is the shizzle!!

Wow the HTC sounds great, I have no experience with Windows Mobile software so I’d be a bit hesitant to pick one of these up before using it myself. The screenshots you took look very high quality, I was surprised at the resolution. I’ll be waiting to hear about the battery life stuff especially when watching video. Will the advantage work with any carrier? I’m guessing it comes unlocked from HTC?

Another note…

I wonder, James, if you will be requesting a Foleo from Palm for review? Bigger screen than the HTC, Opera like the HTC, built-in KB, cheaper price.

Offhand, what do you think of that vs the HTC just based on spex?

Have you tried minimo browser from Mozilla. I have been reading your blog for sometime now. I know you used to use A Toshiba 800 Pocket PC. Then switched to a Sony 71p mini tablet. I think you are wanting that same experence that you lost of grab and go computing. You have a choice of the OQO Model 2 for $3000.00 or the HTC Advantage for $1000.00. You already have the Fujitsu P1610p for serious work, but now you have the option of a capable always conected PDA for grab and go computing at the coffee shop. Hope to see you blogging more about your purchase of the HTC Advantage in the coming months. I have not seen you get this excited about a device for awhile. Thank, Joshua A. Hall

David, I just tested making a call while streaming music in over the internet. The HTC suspended the data session, made the call fine and then resumed when I hung up on the data call. RE: the keyboard. Like all thumbboard keyboards I wouldn’t want to type anything very long. It’s good for texting, emailing and short blog posts but that’s about it. It works wonderfully with the BT keyboard I mentioned though.

JK, is it feasible to use the phone function while you are on a data session???. Is the keyboard useful enough to create docs on the fly or just for short e-mails.

What I really want is an OQO (or similar), with phone (Verizon preferred, or other carrier), with wacom active screen (with resolution appropriate to size), with 64Gb flash hard drive, with instant on feature like a pda, with Vista Premium, that’s quiet, and not hot, under 1 lb, at hopefully about a $1,000.

That’s about it. I’d like that now, please.
