eReader for BlackBerry released- better go get it
I’ve been telling you about eReader Pro for the BlackBerry and been promising that it would be released soon. That time is now, as it’s available for over-the-air download from the folks at eReader. This initial version of eReader for the BlackBerry will run on the following BlackBerries according to eReader:
Curve, Storm, Pearl, Bold, 7130, 8110, 8120, 8130, 8220, 8300, 8310, 8320, 8330, 8350i, 8703e, 8707, 8800, 8820, 8830, 8900, 9000, 9500, 9530
You can access your online bookshelf (both eReader and Fictionwise) via the BlackBerry. You cannot buy books from within the application, but you can do that on the BlackBerry using eReader’s mobile site. The app is free, so what are you waiting for?

First try with my BB Bold….”UNSUPPORTED DEVICE OS”
The eReader folks are checking into that.
This may have been due to the OTA link I originally got from eReader. I’ve updated it so try again and see if it works for you.
James, the actual Over-The-Air link is: http://www.ereader.com/bb-beta.xjad With my BB Storm I couldn’t even start the download using the claimed OTA link you give in the article as the browser couldn’t handle navigating to the actual BB page off that page you give. I finally had to give up and use a desktop browser to get the actual OTA link!
Yep, one more example of why iPhone’s rule when it comes to browsing.
Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve changed the OTA link to the one you provided. Thanks again.
For the record, even with the new link, I get the same “Unsupported OS” error when I try to download the link from my Bold.
Yey! The link works, now! 3:45 pm 3/13/09 EDT
So far, I like the application.
Program needs a feedback feature it’s in very rough shape.
Example:
First time up it needs to lead you through configuration.
Enter account. Store books where? What Font would you like?
When you pop up the panel to set the account in portrait then flip around to landscape to have a full keyboard. It didn’t draw the keyboard for me until I dragged my finger around the screen forcing a re-paint block by block.
Then when a pop up came up in the middle of that fun letting me know ereader wanted my GPS coordinates (say what???) the OK button to dismiss the panel wasn’t visible. I had to flip back around to portrait to get the OK button visible enough to get the GPS permission panel out of the way so I could then go back to landscape to finish entering my account information.
They also need to over ride the screen dimmer. I don’t want to tweak my screen dimmer settings to read a book and then tweak them back to save my batter for the rest of my use of the Storm. Very annoying.
I’d also like a progress bar for downloads. And the tail chasing animation disappears after awhile when downloading too big a book? The download still finishes but you don’t even have animation to keep you company as it does.
And like I said: feedback button. I have no idea where to send feedback to.
But thank god it’s finally available, even in this rough a shape. But they’ve sure managed to make writing apps for Blackberry’s look like rocket science. :-)
