Engadget has HP UMPC deets
Engadget has gotten their hands on a picture rumored to be the upcoming HP UMPC which looks to be an EEE like mini-notebook PC. According to the information that engadget has uncovered the 2133 will have an 8.9 inch screen running at 1366×768, an ExpressCard slot, and wireless LAN. Come on HP, give us the real story here. At 2.5 lbs. this baby is pretty hefty if that weight is true. Notice how it looks like a smaller 2710p.

Does it look like the screen flips? It looks to me like a very small laptop. Am I missing something?
I have to agree… it’s looks basically like a subnotebook to me. Still sexy, and kind of reminds me of the old Apple 12″ Powerbook. I’ll bet it’ll cost a whole lot more than the Asus EEE.
According to Fujitsu’s website the new p1620 with the 6-cell battery weighs approximately 2.5 lbs. So what makes the p1620 super light and the hp ‘pretty hefty’ if they both weigh the same?
Al, to me the P1620 is not a “carry everywhere” device like a UMPC. While it’s one of the smallest and lightest Tablet PCs a 2.5 lb. UMPC is too heavy for me to want to bring it everywhere.
The picces at Engadget show two hinges on each side of the bottom of the unit. The specs don’t show it to be a touchscreen, so it does not appear to be a Tablet PC.
This might be HPs answer to the MBA.
Woadan
i told you guys it was going to be a EEE competitor.
you still havent heard everything yet.
What. Is. The. Priiiiiiice?
Suddenly, my gadget lust has gone all limp when I think of the Everex CloudBook.
hp, price it to Viagra my gadget lust!!
Couple of things – first, even under the most “liberal” definitions of UMPC, this one ain’t it.
Second, while I love the resolution, the only way this thing has any appeal to me is if the keyboard is detachable and I can write on the screen – a modern day mini-TC1100 – so to speak. If so, I’m in. Otherwise, I don’t need another 2 1/2lb. crippled subnotebook.
Glad to see more devices with 8.9″ screen. Can’t wait to find out the price and more detailed specs.
Looks like it’s going to be similar to a Panasonic subnotebook.
I like Lee’s suggestion: a mini-TC1100 would be great! Loved that form factor. Too bad HP didn’t continue it in some innovative way. I have the 2710p but it’s not all it could have been. (And I hate the track stick! Touch pads all the way!)
