Deja vu- where has the Sony UX Micro PC gone?
Reader Brian Schneeberg pointed out to me that the Sony UX180P Micro PC that was just released in the US last month has disappeared from the SonyStyle website. I have been searching high and low on the site and Brian’s right, the UX180P is no longer there. There are a few peripherals that show up when you search for it but that’s about it. I hope this is a temporary thing but if you recall this is EXACTLY what Sony did with the U750P, discontinued it right after launch in the US.

What a shock. Heh.
The U750P was so awesome/revolutionary at the time, whereas the UX180P isn’t super special anymore (with all the UMPCs that are out, OQO, etc). Granted it has the thumb keyboard, but with no tacticle feedback it’s very limited.
If only Sony had pushed their U line more 2 years ago, UMPCs could be a lot further progressed by now..

The guy at the Sony store in Costa Mesa, CA says that they’re getting a new model soon, so they won’t be getting any 180Ps again. No ETA from him on getting the new model in the store.
Hmm… The HP TC1100, the UX180P, I think JK might have the magic touch. once he picks a device, it is doomed! LOL
Well I got my UX180P not too long ago at the local SonyStyle store, I’ve been looking like crazy for an extended batter and haven’t found one yet… even on SonyStyle’s site. I e-mailed them expressing concern for the lack of availability and asking why the U had been pulled from the site… we’ll see how this goes. BTW, Amazon doesn’t have it anymore either…
Bill, that’s been suggested before, especially when you throw the Toshiba E800 into the mix.
JK, my wife and I are like that with restaurants. Whenever we find a place that we really enjoy, it isn’t long before it’s out of business. Go figure!
My sources in Sony inform me that these have been withdrawn due to a major keyboard issue.
Actually no keyboard issue, next month Sony will be releasing new models (there is some info on the Japanese website already) which will replace it.
They now seem to have 40gb drives

New UX coming on September 19:

If they come out with a new UX that supports Cingular’s new 3G/UMTS/HSDPA service instead of the paltry EDGE module, my warrantied-Sony UX might have an unfortunate accident in the near future. ;)
Other than that, pulling it totally from the site is really freaky, especially for buyers who just got it, like, a month ago.
Arrggghhhh! I just bought one of these yesterday!
This really bites. Would much rather have the 1GB model.
Great, now I have to decide whether or not to open the darned thing…
