We’re Giving Away Chrome OS Laptops!
Google last week introduced the CR-48 Chrome OS notebook, which uses a browser and no native apps, but the device will never be sold. Instead, the company ordered sample units, reportedly 60,000 of them, and opened a beta program for testers to try the unbranded CR-48. Samsung and Acer are expected to begin selling real Chrome OS computers by mid-2011, which provides Google with ample time to work out kinks in the browser-based CR-48 test machines.
We have our own Chrome OS laptops for testing, but it turns out that Google has a few extras for us. Instead of arming our office with cloud computers, we’re going to give away five Chrome OS devices to our readers! The only caveat is that you must reside in the U.S., because that’s where Google’s beta test for Chrome OS currently takes place. The devices come with 100 MB of free monthly mobile broadband service from Verizon Wireless.
So how do you get a Chrome OS laptop from us instead of waiting for Google to draw your name out of the beta program hat? That’s easy! Just leave a comment about Google’s Chrome OS in this post and we’ll pick five at random. We won’t be judging comments, so “pick me – i luv chrome!” is satisfactory, but we’re curious to hear what you really think about Google’s Chrome OS effort. In other words, don’t hesitate to share your thoughts on Google’s vision for future computing.
Oh, and make sure you enter a valid email address in the comment form; we can’t circle back to you if we can’t get in touch with you! We’ll keep the comments open until 6pm PT tomorrow, Dec. 14, and then we’ll randomly pick five CR-48 recipients. Don’t wait because this window of opportunity closes quickly!

What’s the point of a PC that can only run a browser? Still I want to check it out.
Well for people who use the majority of there pc to browse the internet, this would make the experience light speed with no other process running,it would start up super-fast and once it does you are connected to the net believe browsing would be amazingly fast on this thing, if anything you could get this for browsing and have either a different computer or a different partition for everything els you might do, the speed of this makes it more than worth it!!
I think cloud computing is the future and I’m curious to see what google came up with.
Good luck everyone!
I am usually quick at signing up for stuff but this time I was too late. Definetly would love one of these and sort of do a challenge to see if I could use this as my only PC for a week. I believe one day this will be the future so it’s exciting to see it at the early stages of cloud computing.
Would love to give Google’s Chrome OS a try. Just switched over to the android operating system on my phone. I’m using an LG Optimus from Sprint, so I’m a newbie when it comes to Android, but love giving new things a try.
Chrome OS rocks and so does CR-48. I want one!!
pick me – i luv chrome!
I think Chrome OS will be a perfect companion to Windows for business travelers. Booting Windows takes minutes, Chrome OS allows you to start working on emails almost as quickly as your Blackberry with a much better keyboard.
I’d love to try it out.
pick me – i luv chrome!
I’m intrigued by Chrome OS… though I’m not sure just having a browser is enough. Of course a free laptop might just prove me wrong. :)
pick me – i luv chrome :)
I’m game to give Google Chrome OS a wack.
Love your work guys keep it up!
I’m interested to see how Chrome OS holds up with daily use. I haven’t read much about it’s offline mode, but I have to be able to access certain thing, documents for example, while offline.
Pick me please!
Developments like Chrome OS definitely have their place. Currently experimenting with JoliCloud and the realization that a thin client today is a viable solution for many tasks is quite nice.
I’ve been forcing Chrome web browser on people for over two years now. Here’s to hoping that google can pull it all off and get cloud computing REALLY going.
Is this actually true?
(Dual purpose post) Functions as both an inquiry and an entry at the same time.
The Cr-48 is an awesome clean slate. Hopefully I’ll win this. ;)
While I do a lot in the cloud, I’m interested in seeing if I can really live with a cloud-only box.
It would be great to have a CR-48 to evaluate.
i need one ;-)
Currently trying jolicloud, chrome will be a good test.
I’m looking forward to seeing how ChromeOS will evolve over time. As good start, but not great.
I’m game.
I didn’t read through the pilot program details yet. How long does it last?
Pick ME !!! Chrome is awesome would love to try Chrome OS
Would love to see what the Chrome laptop is really like. Please… please… please…
I live in the cloud. I’ve created at least 5 “apps” for personal use and would love to get a chance to test the hardware.
pick me – i luv chrome!
Me pls!!
I’m really curious to see how much use I can get out of the cloud as a photographer. If I could work out a system to do on the fly editing and presentations in the cloud on a low budget device, it would be GREAT!. Oh, and I’m a geek so I luv google… Chrome OS ftw!!
Definitely want one of these!
I think the laptop is more interesting than the OS but I don’t know much about either so winning would be cool!
Meego and Jolicloud…almost but not quite there. Here’s hoping that Chrome is ready.
Any idea if it runs Silverlight?
I’ve been a Chrome dev channel user for a while and I love using it, even over Firefox which is starting to get really bloated. Once I saw the CR-48 notebooks, I signed up to get one from Google along with everybody else on the internet because I’m really curious about the possibility of living entirely in the cloud and this would be a great way to jump in head first.
please i need one ;-)
Love google, and love their new project here. Wonder how successful it’ll be, i think it’s got a good chance.
Pick Me! Pick Me!
They said, Chrome OS is the new revolutionary OS. I will love to try it out..
Chrome OS is a very interesting idea, and if they can get the prices right on these (<$200) and show that you don't need Office to work with Office files, stuff like that, it could really have traction.
I'm more excited for devices like smartphones and tablets having fully compatible Chrome browsers, though.
I’ve got MeeGo v1.1 booting on my Asus 1000HE, and find the unique UI quite interesting. It would be awesome to be able to compare a hide-the-apps UI like MeeGo’s with Chrome’s screw-apps-just-use-the-browser approach.
I’m a heavy Google user with Gmail, Calendar, etc. so I’ve been wanting to move the cloud once it was feasible. I’d love to see if Chrome OS can turn out to be the answer for future computing.
I would love to get one of these, been using ChromiumOS by Hexxeh since, well, along time and would love to get my hands on this!
Thanks!!
Pick Me Please!
I am fairly excited about Chrome OS, cannot wait to give it a shot, hopefully I can soon. I have pretty much fully committed to Google already between Gmail and Google Voice. I also use the Chrome browser on a regular basis, but perhaps most important — I want to see how Chrome OS is going to stack up against Jolicloud. I have been using Jolicloud on my netbook for about a year now and love the cloud aspect.
I just tried jolicloud, which uses chrome as its browser. I think that Google’s own OS makes more sense.
I would love one please!
Great way to drive comments.
Looking forward to Chrome OS. I’ve become a big fan of iOS but would love to be proven wrong.
Would love to give Chrome OS a test.
I’m seriously intrigued by the Chrome OS. I work for a startup news company that pretty much only uses the Internet to connect, discuss, post and manage our sites. I’d love to see if this could be a good avenue for our company to take, as we are very mobile, very connected and very into the Google Apps.
Thanks for not making this tied to Facebook like TechCrunch!
I have a laptop running Ubuntu and I am currently down to using Chrome and a terminal for over 90% of what I need, I think migrating completely to ChromeOS is the final step, and something that won’t require much adjustment. I don’t understand a lot of the negativity – there are many use cases where this setup doesn’t work, but there is a place for consumers, and especially business deployments, where a browser is all you need.
I use Linux and open source a lot… I’m curious about how Google’s locked it down. :)
I could always use another gadget…
pick me – i luv chrome!!!!!!
I am very curious to see if it is truly feasible to “live in the cloud”. I am also pretty interested to see how many of us will continue to entrust the cloud (aka Google) with all of our sensitive data.
You should at least make us suck up to you.
I’ve applied for the beta program but I’d love to win from you guys. I’m really curious to experience what it’s like to work on a true cloud computer, and how the Chrome OS creates a new computing experience.
I’m interested to see how Chrome OS holds up with daily use. I haven’t read much about its offline mode, but I have to be able to access documents when I have no connection.
Sweet.. I’ve got mixed feelings about ChromeOS.. Alot will depend on the price point. It seems like there is a lot lacking, but it’s probably on par with the functionality of the first generation iPhone (who needs native apps? You can do everything with web apps!)
I’m looking forward to seeing ChromeOS evolve. It looks good now….can eventually be great.
Yes please! I live in the cloud.
Just want to check one out to see what the hubbub is about
ChromeOS looks interesting!
I love Chrome and live in it all day practically anyway. I am most interested in seeing if I can actually live only with ChromeOS. I don’t think I can, but some of the web apps like the Aviary series can really do what I want!
Wow, I’m really excited to see how this works in the real world. Could the future of the much discussed network computer FINALLY be here?
Would love to try it out as well, go with living in the cloud and see if I can do it. I have all but abandoned office on my personal PC so this seems like the next logical step.
Josh M is cheating! No sucking up to James and Kevin!
P.S. Love the site!
It is going to be work habit changing device for sure.
Really anxious to try this new OS. Have been using Google docs for some time now, both personally and professionally. The OS is the next step and I am looking forward to where it’s going. Thanks!
I love this new OS strategy. 95% of work I do involves the browser and only needs a browser. I would like a notebook that can boot instantly so that I can get more work done on the go.
I’m a heavy Google user and been wanting to move to the cloud for primary computing… I’d love to see if Chrome OS can be the answer!
Google’s Chrome OS may be a game changer if it is well designed and the hardware is cheap enough. Oh, and pick me.
Chrome OS will not be for everyone yet, or maybe ever for some, but it seems very promising for a many.
go chrome
Pick me cause I need a laptop and Chome looks like it would fill my needs!
Thanks.
Pick me, I NEED chrome OS!
pick me – i luv chrome! :)
Tragedy! The Cr-48 which was sent to me did not have my UNIT# on the address, so it was returned to Google. Anyway, I have been working on the ChromiumOS DEVELOPMENT system for a few months, which fails mostly. Sadly, this thing may still need a LOT of work before it is ready for prime-time.
pick me – i luv chrome!
I’m in.
Love the search button. Love the app store. Love the lack of clutter. Love not having to manage files. All that and the fact that it’s gonna be dirt cheap make it pretty awesome.
I would love to get one!
I find myself using more and more of what Google has to offer. I would love to try this as well.
I <3 Chrome. Well ok, not sure yet, but a laptop with it would help me decide that :)
Awesome, would love to give it a try.
I love Google Chrome but I’m still not sold on the OS idea of it.
I would enjoy the logoless hotness to show off at the next Camp, Unconference, Meetup, and coffee shop I loiter!
Our user group would benefit tremendously to have one!
Our meeting discussions are increasingly revolving around cloud, so this would fit perfectly into where we are going!
Here’s hoping I’m picked!
google rules! Love to get a chrome laptop!
I use Chrome browser all the time so can’t wait to use the chrome os.
The cloud OS concept is intriguing, I’d be interested to see if it’s more or less effective than just a regular barebones netbook running XP or a custom Linux.
The Chrome browser has made huge inroads- it would definitely be interesting to test Chrome OS…
Ddown with the static OS – Up with dynamic cloud based OS and programs. Cut the cord again!
Let’s see what Chrome OS can do!
I’m interested in finding out whether Chrome OS is of any use for serious work apps. (Guessing not but want to try it.)
I signed up with Google but since I haven’t heard anything from them yet, I’d love to be selected to receive one of yours. You know what a fan I am of JK On the Run. Plus, I’m big on clouds, multiple operating systems, and multiple devices. Pick me!
Chrome laptop please!
I like playing with new operating systems. I’ve played with the Chromium builds from hexxeh in VMs before, and I only use Chrome to browse at home. Plus I’m working with a 5 year old laptop that isn’t cutting it anymore for the computing I like to do.
Most interesting new device and OS in awhile and I am curious how it would work…
I am game. “pick me – i luv chrome!”
Next year looks exciting already. Google has shifted their focus from search to web portal platforms for some time now (or maybe search was just their original implementation, fitting the time). Clearly, Google wants to position Chrome OS to be to PCs what Android is for mobile devices.
The numerous implications of Chrome OS are going to be fascinating to explore next year. Will it work for the consumer? Will it work for advertisers? Will they be able to build on existing partnerships with mobile hardware developers? How will Windows respond? How will alternative Linux products fare? How will net neutrality impact the expanded use of cloud services. How will this impact the privacy debates? Will Google be able to effectively integrate all of its properties to the benefit of Chrome OS? One could go on all day…
With or without a CR-48 (preferably, with!), interesting times are ahead. Good luck fellow commenters.
WOW! Cool! As a long time MAC user, I’d love to try out a browser based OS!
Chrome rules!
I am game for Chrome OS. “pick me – i luv chrome!”
Hook me up!
Most of Google’s other products seem solid so let’s give Chrome a spin!
google chrome rules! It’s all I use for my netbook.
Pick me! I luv Chrome! LOL :)
Ohh Please pick me! I cant go another day searching “Cr-48″ in twitter and watching all of these people get one! I cant wait to try it out Im a die hard google-er
Glad you guys got some extras and that’s awesome of you to give them away :).I think the Chrome OS notebooks will be sweet – I’m just hoping I get the chance to try one.
I need more of the Google koolaid! I have an addiction to being an early adopter!!
I’m anxious to try out the Chrome OS. I’ve been moving more and more storage to the cloud, so an OS that is largely cloud-based seems a good fit.
May I have one? Thank you.
Sweet….would be interesting. JKOnTheRun Rocks
Can I play
Pick me – I love Chrome, & have actually been using the thing since 2 weeks after initial release!
I like cloud apps – and loading a bunch of storage online. There are somethings however, I want available fast whether internet is available or not
I LIVE ON THE CLOUD!!
Plus I really want to get rid of my CAPS LOCK key.. :)
I love testing products of Google and I’m a proud oner of a Nexus One (and waiting to buy the Nexus S)..
I think that web based OS is perfect.. Think of all the services that Windows XP/Vista/7 has that you don’t need or use..
All the build in application that you never open..
I would very much like to have a notebook that a 100% of it’s resources goes to the user rather then the OS…
Since switching from iPhone to Android a few months ago, I have to admit I am impressed by Google’s operating system development capabilities. I would love to try a Chrome notebook out!
I love Google! Please send me a Chrome laptop.
I want ChromeOS!! I’m hearing from everyone that got a CR-48 notebook rocks!
Change is good so it would be nice to give this OS a go. I see lots of potential for this and it would be great to be one of the first to participate in this new experience.
Mildly curious about Chrome OS. Not usually and early adopter.
Something something Chrome OS.
I have pretty much moved my storage to the cloud. I also find myself migrating everything to apps. I now live in Android, Evernote, Dropbox and Google Docs. How did this happen? I just realized that I have no use for my Win 7 laptop anymore.
I’ve been doing research in my lab using Google Docs and need a small computer to carry around instead of my Dell Studio XPS 16…I would love to test this out and see how effective it is in productivity in research labs.
I was considering buying a netbook, but I may hold it off if I can see what Chrome OS can do. I bought my gf a netbook, but it seems too slow for me to use effectively. I hate waiting forever for a browser to load.
Love the idea of a Google netbook, expect it to be substantially more productive than a pad/tablet
I’m really looking forward to a cloud-only future. I can’t wait to see what Google’s first foray into this sphere is all about.
I’m in education and I feel that cloud computing is a perfect fit for education. Students can turn it on instantly so they do not have to wait 5 minutes to get started learning. Also, they can carry all of their resources from class to class to home without worry about where they saved their files. I would be tremendously interested to try Chrome OS, both personally and with the teachers and students I work with.
I’m very interested to see how many of my everyday tasks will be handled with just a web browser. Chrome OS has always been of interest to me – if only for a usable alternative to Windows for people who only use their laptops for the internet.
pick me – i luv chrome!
Cloud computing for the win!
I am hoping to see if cloud computing really works for end-users.
As James said, as people who work in their browsers all day, Chrome OS is something I’d LOVE to try for what I do.
I really believe in the future of this web-based OS. I’m especially curious to see how well it performs when you don’t have any kind of Internet connection. Wouldn’t mind testing this on my own CR-48…. :-)
I want one!!
I’m actually excited to get it in my kids’ hands. Most of my 5-year olds computer time is spent within a web browser (with a few jaunts out to TuxPaint). I’d like to see how he would use this.
pick me-i luv chrome!
Let’s go Chrome
After using the new Chrome webstore, can’t wait to see it on actual hardware. Hope I get to check one out.
Very curious to see if I can live in a webapp only world. My MBPro is going on four years old, and Apple’s censorship policies distress me, as well as their lack of support for charitable orgs, exemplified by their refusal to allow in-app donations in iPhone apps. Chrome, Windows or Linux?
To the cloud!
I’m always up for testing out a new platform!
I’m extremely interested in using this for some serious cloud computing. I think it’s definitely the future – why buy new hardware every couple of years if you don’t have to?
I’m curious as to what a cloud only OS would feel like on a daily basis.
Pick me! I love Chrome!
Whoop!
I like the idea of a PC running only a browser, but I don’t get how a web app is different from a website.
Really dig Chrome as my browser and been transitioning all my work processes to the cloud so I think a Chrome notebook is definitely something interesting to look at if it can keep me even more focused on the cloud.
But I really do love Chrome!
I like the idea of a PC running only a browser.
I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these things. I’ve been trying to decide on a Tab, iPad and now this!
Joe
Chrome os is true lighweight OS. Or better the cloud OS.
Chrome laptop is a true google bet.
If android is the phone bet, Chrome os is a mobile bet as in laptop – mobile.
Will there be a google desktop bet also? As in lesser cloud, with more emphasis in local storage. Is it the google tv?
I need a chrome laptop…baddddd
I love Chrome!!
I am very curious as to how useful a cloud based OS would run. Being in IT security the idea of no data on the PC is very interesting.
Pick me – I luv chrome.
I really do want to check out Chrome. This is a great reason!
Chrome OS. I am impressed with the possibilities but Google should make it easy for people to install and treat it like a desktop OS rather than a mobile OS if they want to stay relevant.
I am still on the fence with the cloud OS idea. On one hand I’m really excited about the revolution in simplicity. It will be much easier for all levels of computer users. As the iPad has shown, a lot of people simply hate the complexity of a traditional OS. On the other hand I do not think I can go totally cloud with all my information. Sometimes internet service simply fails. Then there’s the additional monthly cost of service from Verizon, etc. It will be really interesting to see how this plays out. Will definitely make ripples in the computer world and create new expectations.
ChromeOS – I want some.
It would be nice to be able to have fully functional non-microsoft alternatives.
I’d like to check this newfangled thingy out!
I’m skeptical about how useful this “netbook” will be. I’d love to get my hands on one to see how well they solve the unavoidable issues that go along with cloud computing (such as connection loss, slow connections, etc).
This is a great move on Google’s part. I’m already working in Google Apps most of the time, with the Chrome browser. There are still some holes in what it can do though, mostly specialized niche apps.
If Google keeps improving their offerings there should be no reason to miss the messiness of a full OS.
I love how Google is upping the ante and going the extra yard to give us what we need!
The real test for the OS would be, what I call the mom-dad test. If they are able to use it without much trouble, then the OS is good enough (as a cloud-book)
There goes your privacy. I’ll try it.
Please… Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! Pick Me! I’m not sure on the whole Chrome OS thing. What’s the point? Why not create better syncing between OS and cloud? It’s just a face on Linux right? So what does it add?
This would be awesome! Chrome FTW!
Curious to see if Chrome OS can truly create a seamless world between cloud computing and offline content. Also want to judge Google’s ability to manage all my Google ‘personas’ via one OS
I’d be interested to see how much I can survive on a cloud-connected computer. Being a recent smartphone convert (got my first, an EVO, in June), I’m surprised how much I can get done on it and never touch a computer.
We’ve been looking at using iPad in our office for mobile staff to run citrix based applications. If there’s a good citrix client for chrome OS, I’d be really curious to see how usable it is.
I’ll take one for a test drive.
I would love to try one out!
I use Google:Voice,docs,gmail,earth,maps,reader,insights,calendar,chrome and analytics.
This would be awesome to see what they’re cooking up!
Would love to get a Chrome laptop since I’m really curious about how the cloud based computing compares to traditional systems and others like Jolicloud. I’m also a college student so it would be really nice to test out and use for notes/networking.
pick me – i luv chrome!
Please pick me! I think I signed up too late and missed the boat on googles pilot program. I would be the perfect test, I am constantly on the web and always using chrome. Good luck to everyone else!
Hey, you never know . . .
yojimboj@gmail.com
It sounds interesting! Be cool to check one out.
I am always up for testing mobile products. Besides, it cannot be any worse than the IBM z50 workpad that I bought years ago in the desire for a mobile device.

I think that even if Chrome OS never makes “prime time,” the effort itself will teach us a lot. It’s blazing a new trail. Others will follow the newly widened path through the jungle…
Just switched to Android from BB. Might as well go all in…
::Insert witty reason of why I NEED a Google CR-48 computer here::
HA! On a serious note. I’m a grad student and project manager which means I will actually USE this computer. I’m online all the time so I won’t fade to black once I win. I think you should pick me because I’m 99.9% sure I won’t win. I never win things online. Prove me wrong Kevin!
Oh. Last plug. If picked, I will launch a website built solely on cr-48. Yup the first google laptop built startup. I promise.
Give me Chrome OS now or nobody get Microsoft ever.
I’d like to try it out and then set my grandmother up with it as a nice way for her to stay in touch with our relatives overseas.
you can go ahead and pick me.
This is a glimpse into what appears to the future of personal computing. I’m a web developer/graphic designer so I have my doubts especailly in the short term about the speeds that these computers can operate at. That said, with the new 1GB/sec networks launching that could be a problem that is erased as cities and companies upgrade to the new fully fibre networks and as communications companies use the whitespace freed by the FCC.
Have all my data stored remotly could be convenient on the one hand but I think having a local copy is still the most important thing. Chrome will be a fun test of the future consumer market.
I think that there’s no avoiding it, cloud computing IS the future for most users. I also think that the traditional hardware users will never go away completely, either. Thanks for the contest!
I love the idea of Linux you don;t have to mess with and no local storage to worry about. “bout time.
I love everything Google! I love the Chrome browser and I want the Chrome OS so badly I can taste it! Assimilate me, please, O Mighty Google!
I want to connect to my TV for accessing shows and movies.
I’ve been waiting for the Chrome notebook/netbook/laptop (whatever you want to call it) for almost a year. Seems like a viable alternative if the price is right (ie cheaper than a Windows netbook). I’d love to get my hands on one of these. Hope I get picked.
I am a big believer and user of Google products, so I hope they succeed. However, they will need to find an economical spot between the netbooks, tablets, and the lower priced full OS notebooks. Reviewers rave about easy setup (good), fast boot time (good), very fast resume from standby (great), but there are issues with printing (bad), ports (bad), and non standard keyboard (good & bad). It will be very interesting to see how they take the reviewers comments to heart and how it will impact version 2.0 of this project.
I am currently looking to replace my VERY aging laptop (Dell Latitude D400)at this time. I would like to try out the Google device. I might cause me to delay my purchase until mid next year when the hardware and software are commercially available.
Would love to test the Chrome OS!
I am ecstatic to hear about recent developments in Chrome OS. Google seems to be the only major company who understands the convenience and value of cloud / browser-based storage and services not only to working professionals, but a majority of casual users as well. This paradigm will be less of a strain on hardware and serves to streamline the software experience. Definitely not for hardcore gamers or other niche segments, but it is a significant step in the right direction.
Really interested in trying this out!
I just recently switched from Firefox to Google Chrome as my main web browser (and I’m liking it) and I’d also like to try out the Google OS to see how well that works. I’m a bit skeptical with the requirement of a constant internet connection, but you never know…
I’m a teacher and I think cloud computing will save our School Districts $K’s of dollars. I’d love to “pilot” something like this for our district. It would be quite rewarding.
I really think Chrome OS will one day be more used then Windows OS. It will only take some time.
After reviewing the specs of what the improvements google has made to the browser I’m really interested in what this means for the future of computing. I’d love to have it especially to be ablel to do testing of new web apps. HTML CSS3 and fast JavaScript handling meant that a whole new world is open in terms of web development and that websites are no longer just sources of information but they have the ability to be full programs. I’m pretty excited about this potential tie in to the new tablet and cell phone technology.
If the Chrome OS is as good an operating system as Chrome is a browser it will be a winner. Google will have to continue to evolve both.
One of my professors said about another technology, “Being better isn’t enough. You have to be enough better.” Chrome browser is enough better and the cost of changing (e.g., from Firefox) is small. Will Chrome OS be enough better to make the cost of changing worthwhile?
I would love to check one of these out. I think this would be the perfect computer for the computer illiterates out there: No security updates, no antivirus, no registry…
I am a staunch supporter of cloud computing. So far I personally compute this way solely on mobile. Not sure how that would translate to a desktop experience. However I love Google and by extension Chrome (its the only browser I use). I’d love to take it for a spin and see the difference (if any) in running a pure chrome os experience and chrome as a browser on a laptop/desktop.
Would love one for school. :)
Chromeos rulez!
count me in! when you get a machine these days all you need is the web and web tools :)
I wonder if ChromeOS will have the power to fill that niche between iPad-like slate devices and netbooks that run some flavor of Windows. It’ll be interesting to see what kinds of people are drawn to each platform.
My Precious!!
OK, my first attempt didn’t work. I’d love to pilot this for our School District. Cloud computing can save us thousands.
Hook me up.
Hey, I want to check out how Google’s first salvo at Microsoft.
Please gimme, gimme Cr-48
just curiosity about CR48 …and now a chance to get one of them. thanks :)
Pick me please.
I will give the Chrome OS a good run for the money.
Now that I have my personal cloud work flow set up (Pogoplug with 2 hardrives and an HP MEdiasmart Server with 6 tB of storage, I would love to use Chrome to access personal cloud.
Please pick me
My goal is to live online out of the browser.
I would love the chance to evaluate one of these and see how the internet only aspect limits usability.
pick me ! pick me !
Wonder how the online only computer will work a rural area? I’d like to find out
Anxious to try this out.
I’ll Take it!
sounds great in concept, should be adopted like android was, let’s see what it’s got!
Your system seems to be overloaded (imagine that).
Second try — pick me.
I really like the Crome browser. I’d love to give the OS a try. I do 90 percent of my computing in the cloud, si this would work for me. I travel a lot and work from various locations, so the form factor would be good for me. Love your sites too.

I luv google chrome
I’m curious to see what the adjustment curve is being limited to just the browser.
Errrrrrrr could I have one please, I can’t think of anything smart to say?
Comments do not seem to be getting posted.
Trying again.
Curious to see how functional this is going to be!
This thing would change my life! Thanks for your Consideration!
Couldn’t sleep last night, thinking about the cr-48. Pick me?
I have always wondered about an OS built on a Browser Canvas. Netscape was headed in that direction before they got nixed by Microsoft’s strategy of cutting of their supply lines by offering IE for free. Palm’s WebOS was the first to bring back that vision and Google’s forays into doing the same on the Laptop/Netbook platform are interesting and represent a potential game changing effort.
Give me Chrome!! Please!
Got to play with one of these briefly yesterday. I’ve been weary of the browser-only OS concept, but it could make a fine “couch machine”. Would love to put it through its paces.
I rarely used locally installed apps on my notebook. Bring it on!
I wonder how they will implement program installs. Will I run VLC from the cloud? Lots of questions that could be answered by having one of the notebooks!!
I almost live in Chrome as it is now.
Giving laptops away for free is an awesome idea from google. Good luck to everyone.
Chrome achieves what most of us use our computers for anyways…the cloud is the only way. Good for business travelers who want a full keyboard.
I would live to give this machine / OS a spin to see how it works for professionals on the go. Ease of content creation and management is critical for me.
I really wanna try out the CR-48!!!!
I wonder how this OS compares to the iOS installed on the iPad and Windows-based tablets. It’d be interesting to see…
I use the Chrome browser and LOVE IT !!! I would love to try Chrome OS on the laptop and see if cloud computing is truly the future.
Love the Chrome Browser so can’t wait to see what Google has in store for us with their new OS.
I’d like to have one!
It will be interesting to see how well this OS will complete with the already released (and upgraded) Jolicloud.
I would like one. Damn near my whole life is Google controlled.
An alternative to Microsoft that’s affordable, heck yeah!
It is pretty cool that they also include 100MB of data with the option to buy a plan. I think Verizon will get more users following this model.
CHROME OS LAPTOP OMG
Hard-core Google user who works mostly in the cloud. Would love to give this a test drive
YEP
DUDE!!! I would love a Chrome Notebook!! Just sayin’
Really looking forward to this cloud base step. And testing first would be awesome! !! Thanks
I would love to give one of these a try. Pick me Please!!
I want to see how hackable this netbook will be and if it’s possible to load custom builds. I wonder if Google will employ the same safeguards they used in Android. If I get one, I will report back.
I would love to try a Chrome OS laptop.
pick me – i luv chrome!
would love to see more competition in the OS world.
something that just works, all the time… everywhere!
Can I live on the cloud? Only one way to find out!
Cool! I’d like one, plz!
Not so sure cloud computing is gonna work for a while but I want to check it out.
I’d love to try a Chrome OS notebook.
I think it could take off more in enterprises because of security and relative lack of maintenance, rather than for consumers.
I suspect if consumers see a notebook/netbook with a full keyboard, they will expect it will run regular programs — and that typically means Windows — and be able to plug in peripherals.
I’m not sure if a “Chromebook” will be a hit with consumers, unless it’s inexpensive, such as $250, preferably $200 — without any cellular operator subsidization.
But the price doesn’t seem likely…unless Google decides to subsidize a retail version.
i think for ubicomp applications a chrome machine is the shizzle.
I like this idea and would love to try it out.
I am intrigued by the concept but, for an OS focused on cloud computing, I hope there will be more than 100mb of data available. Wifi FTW!
Would love a CR-48 laptop, would be great for my kids to do homework on, and get their daily dose of computer usage from a Chrome based laptop.
Would love to see why Google considers this our future!
Here’s hoping! Chrome looks very cool to explore!
Geek girl seeks exciting new OS. Must be a dreamer with his head in the clouds.
All my developer and designer friends absolutely love Chrome. I’m very curious to check out their new OS as well as potentially write a review about it on my new blog http://techkik.com
Much appreciated!
I think Google is on the right track with this.
I am really excited for ChromeOS to be released. I don’t think it will be that big of an issue to have everything reside in the cloud. (At least for me it will not be). I think that developers could do some really innovative things on this platform. Happy Holidays.
I’m just intrigued. Intrigued. That’s all. Intrigued.
I really want to try this thing out. Plus the matte black design with no logos and branding to mar it is so unbelievably attractive.
I am interested to see how the Chrome OS works.
I am curious how Chrome OS compares to iOS, Android, Windows, Mac OS, and others. Also, how well the OS and apps perform for work and entertainment. It will be interesting to see How far Google can go with Android and Chrome OS.
I think cloud computing is the future and I’d love to get my hands on of these.
I don’t care what people say about no local storage and processing power. I want this.
I am very curious to see what the overall functionality is and how it could benefit the business community.
I’ve been living on the cloud for the most part with my iPad and iPhone. I’d love to see how it would work in a more traditional format.
I’m wondering if they are going to integrate the Chrome OS with Google TV so that using this netbook in front of the TV is a unique experience. I’m finding that the Android integration is a little slow and not as good as I’d like.
Chrome is da bmob!
Pick me – I love chrome! Sorry, couldn’t resist :)
It’s nice to see a company that is willing to break out of the box of offline OS and computing. I’m not sure if this is the way of the future but it does seem like it would be a great netbook.
Chrome OS for the win.
The cloud is king… move over windows you’ll soon be obsolete
I like the idea of cloud computing. And I love Android. I’d like to see what Google has up its sleeve.
Curious to see how this measures up to another non computer the Celio REDFLY. The concepts of the REDFLY and Chrome seem very similar the exception being the you use your smart phone as the cloud vice the internet.
Pick Me!!!
This is good. I wonder if there will be an option for this that does not need a online connection. What can you do without the online connection (is there an offline mode to save data locally and upload / sync later)?
I am so stupidly excited about this new os. I can’t wait to get one. Please pick me; make a geek’s year!
I like the idea of cloud based computing. Would love to see what Google’s got…
I’d like to give it a try, however I don’t see myself as a browser only computer user.
I’m up for Cloud computing. I’ve been a Google fanboy from the beginning, was one of the early Gmail people, used Chrome browser as early adapter, use Google for pretty much everything so i trust that they will do it right. The people against cloud computing now I think will see the benefits down the road as it matures. The ability to have my work, my play, and my inbetween be available all the time is something I’m looking forward to.
I’m looking forward to seeing what the Chrome OS has to deliver in the upcoming year. Most of my work is web based anyway. While I don’t see Chrome replacing my faithful Win 7 desktop anytime soon, but I could see Chrome OS replacing my aging notebook.
I love the shmell of Google Chrome OS in the morning.
Having trouble posting a comment. Hope this works. I like the idea of cloud based computing and would love to see what Google’s come up with.
pick me – i luv chrome
Another tool for the toolkit!
It would be a nice Christmas present…
Would love to give chrome OS a try. Have been using google apps for a year and would love to move everything to the cloud.
“pick me – i luv chrome!”
I could be convinced to live exclusively in the cloud.
Yes Please ;-)
Pick me please. As an Android developer, I am really interested in a Chrome laptop.
I’m pretty interested in seeing how cloud platforms work in terms of replacing traditional PC functionality. I’m especially curious about offline applications (what happens when I’m on an airplane?). In any case, exciting stuff and I look forward to seeing them compete against MS and Apple.
I’d love to try out Chrome as my only O/S for a week.
I don’t know what I think about chrome as an OS. How about you give me a laptop so I can find out?
Chrome OS!
Would love to try it. I’ll see if I can install this on my eee pc in any case.
I want a free laptop…even though I think the cloud thing is kinda lame.
Would love to give Google’s Chrome OS a try.
Chrome OS is the way forward with the 3d, webgl, and pdf possibilities its a versatile platform for everyday use.
I’m writing this from xpress gate web browser on my Asus.
chrome yeah
Pick me!
Chrome is going to be the netbook for the masses. No handicaps. 90% of PC users use it for watching Netflix, watching DVDs, and surfing the web. This is Google TV with a keyboard. Why is google doing this? Because Microsft Bing is their only competitor and Microsoft is the only one with MONEY who can catch up to them. You cut your enemy at their knees. You take out Office with Google Docs, you take out their OS with Chrome. You do it gently so they don’t notice it.
The problem with the future is that Google expects every device to have wireless internet. I dont’ think the Ma Bell companies are going to want to lose their cash cows so readily or quickly.
I’ve tried OS, Windows, and various Linux configurations, would love to see if this a practical alternative.
Count me in!
Most of the applications I use are installed on the local machine, with a few exceptions. So it would be interesting to see how effective my work day would be using only a browser and web based applications.
P.S. If it helps: pick me – i luv chrome!
Since I travel for a living, I have been trying to have everything sync to the cloud. I think that this is the way I will be able to actually get it working perfectly.
I hope I get the chance to try it out!
Thanks,
Patrick
These may not make a lot of sense for the typical home user, since “broadband” connectivity still comes and goes a fair bit. Inside a company intranet, though, it might be a great way to ditch Windows PCs for simple web terminals. Like a Sun Ray, but simpler. I wonder if Google will pitch the idea to large companies, perhaps bundled with their search appliance?
I find it interesting that they are debuting the OS on a laptop. I would think that more mobile form factors (tablet) would be recognized as more of an opportunity for any new OS. But maybe Google just got the cheapest hardware they could and is trying to avoid overlaps with Android.
From Kaypro’s CPM to Google’s Chrome -
Please!
Chrome OS is a heading in a right direction with the OS being just a browser. It going to be a new phenomena and will have a market of it’s own. Google is employing a perfect strategy to have people use their services even more. :)
Sweet! Thanks for the offer! I can’t wait to play with Chrome OS. I am downloading jolicloud today to try it out on an old laptop that I have. I hope to be able to compare the two soon!
pick me – i luv chrome :)
Would love to check this out and compare how it runs to a 5 yo Dell single core that I have with Ubuntu…….
I love trying out new technology and want to give cloud computing a try. It will be interesting to see if I could really do everything from inside a browser. CR- 48 looks like it would be good for traveling.
Mobile computing is nifty
Here’s to hoping I win!
I’m anxious to see how a web-app only will suite my needs, where I have net access *most* of the time, but not all the time.
-Jason
i applied direct with google, but haven’t heard from them…
Computing at home using Chrome and Xubuntu installed on a thumb drive and a 2002 broken laptop. Hope to get one of the notebooks. Thanks
Always love Google products..so excited to use Chrome OS
I cannot WAIT to try out the Chrome netbooks. I have a regular old netbook right now and it’s true that 99% of what I do on it is via a browser. I do use my desktop for times when a nice big screen comes in handy (photos, etc.) but for a netbook-type scenario this sounds perfect. In short, pick me!
I’m very intrested in how the chrome os will integrate the web into its operating system. Also how it will operate in offline mode. I love android, but going against windows 7, is not going to be as easy of a task like windows mobile. But I would love to see google do it.
I prefer cr-48 over c-4.
I’d love to try out Chrome. I’m a longtime Google user and can’t wait for this new approach to computing and the web.
I travel for a living, so I have been trying to keep all of my files in sync. I feel that with Chrome OS, I will finally be able to. I would love to try out the new OS.
Thank you!
Patrick
My daughter tells me this is the perfect computer for her 80 year old dad. She is hardly ever wrong.
I’d like a Chrome laptop. Thanks.
pick me – i luv chrome!
I’d really like to check this out, especially since I don’t think I’m gonna make the cut via Google.
I’m not a big fan of the cloud idea but I like value and an open source os with no hdd should provide more bang for the buck! Let’s see how it performs.
pick me – i luv chrome
I don’t think that I can work just in the cloud but would like the opportunity to try it out.
pick me – i luv chrome!
chrome is the best for web browsing experience! Will be interesting to check it out!!
A Cr-48 would be the best Christmas surprise gift, ever!
I love chrome, the best browser about.
I’m hesitantly excited. Give me a laptop. :)
I would like to get my hands on the future.
I’m not entirely sure of the safety of personal information “in the cloud” constantly but I’m still totally curious.
Great more junk
I really want to try out Chrome-OS. Pick me!
Funny how we go from Mainframes and terminals to Personal computers and now back to central management and remote terminals (I mean notebooks with Chrome).
This looks awesome!!!
Google better pull it off, there’s so much potential here!
My other laptops want to compare themselves to Google OS, bragging rights and all you know :p
I could really use one of these laptops. You guys are awesome.
jpviper@gmail.com
I’d love to have a go at one of these laptops. Thanks!
I hope my unique name will get me a CR-48 haha. But in all seriousness, I think this notebook is going to be a big changer for the netbook market. I want to try out Chrome Print and see if I can truly live within only a browser. I hope the hacking community for this is strong too!
I would love to test the Chrome OS laptop (netbook) because my day to day habits are mostly cloud based. Chrome OS really interests me because I would like to see if I can go 100% web dependent. Thank you for the opportunity to apply for this giveaway.
I like to try out Google CR-48
pick me – i luv chrome!
I hope my unique name will get me a chrome notebook! I think this is really going to take over the netbook sector. I can’t wait to test it out and try Chrome Print!
There are lots of people who will benefit from not worrying about an OS
I want one please.
I prettymuch only use laptops for chrome anyway.
I’m really interested to see what Google is planning to do about bookkeeping software. They asked about QuickBooks on their Cr-48 survey, and they asked applicants to use the Cr-48 as their primary computer. Does that mean they have a solution for QuickBooks users? Other than that, I pretty much live in the Chrome browser anyway, so a Chrome laptop should be a good fit – and instant-on would be REALLY nice!
I think I will have 1/600 chance to win. It’s Christmas, let’s try :)
I’m really interested in the Cr-48, it looks like an awesome machine! I hope I win :D The 5 in 365 (so far) chance of winning this sure beats everyone signing for one through Google.
Really excited to potentially get a Cr-48. I don’t think Chrome is an immediate replacement, nor do I think the browser only paradigm will be the future of OSs, but I definitely think an OS purely in the cloud will be how 98% of people use their laptops in 5-6 years.
Feels/looks very beta, but one of the reasons I love Google. Put it out there and let people try it!
I’d be interested to see if I could actually do web development on this
Lots of potential, especially when they work out all the underlying infrastructure issues.
If someone would make a terminal emulator app for chrome I think I could live totally off a cr-48. I look forward to testing it. :D
Love the Chrome concept. If they can get the driver support and gaming aspect down. I’m all in. That and VPN support for corporate access.
I’d be really excited to try this out.
I’m very interested after hearing all the comments. Would love to check it out.
I’d love to try one of these out. Gimme the chance! :)
Pick me!
A Haiku:
Google Chrome OS
Is the latest shiny thing.
Of course I want it!
by Jeff Sass
This really looks promising, I’ve ever waited for an instant on OS I just keep wondering if it’s going to work as announced
Pik me, i luv chrom!
If I’m not mistaken, google came out with the idea of its OS in order to take part of the netbook market. I was overly excited about it when I first heard about it but I’m not really sure if I’m in the same state of mind now. I just don’t feel the same way I do about netbooks as I did when jkontherun was still jkontherun. But I noticed Kevin said it’s a Chrome OS laptop, not a netbook. Regardless, I want one since it’s free. =)
I want to live in the cloud.
As the IT Director of an automated library system with 200 libraries I support, I’m thinking a computer that ONLY surfs the web and can’t be ‘fiddeled’ with is a good thing when the public is concerned. The ‘public’ can break and infect a public access computer in no time.
More options in the O/S world mean more ways to approach and solve problems. This must be good!!
I want to be a part of the future of computing.
pick me – i luv chrome!
ChromeOS… The future of computing several years late /
I’m looking forward to the instant standby resumption and the near instant ~15 second cold boot up times of Chrome OS.
I would love to test one of these puppies out! Please pick me!
I think the cloud is the future for consumer computing and I would love to try a chromeos device.
I’m curious to see some of the security features tested out.
Totally love Google and looking forward to having a CR-48 of my own.
Dec 14 is too long… i want one like yesterday
pick me – i luv chrome!
I’d love to try it out. It’s worth a shot.
I would like to see if one can use this as a portable photography studio.
I like the idea of a 100mb gratis monthly internet allotment. That’d make it easier to keep up on my Google Reader RSS feeds, Gmail email, & also booking a room from priceline while on the road. :)
I would like to try the Chrome notebook. I’m not sure if cloud computing is the way of the future, at least for my type of work.
There are developers and consumers. Those that need to develop things will have to continue with local files. For example, managing and editing HD 1080p videos is not going to work with Chrome notebook. For most “consumers” the cloud is a good thing as long as there’s an internet connection.
I would the chance to try and provide feedback.
Does the laptop need to been attached to the internet in order to work properly ?
Won’t meet the needs the business community, but casual users at home might use this. I would love to have this built into my TV.
pick me – i luv chrome! I had a alpha version of chrome OS and loved it. I have android on my phone and its awesome. I would love to have a chrome laptop so i can use it. I like the boot up speed and all the stuff on it. I use Google docs and GMail all the time.
pick me, pick me…why? back in 2005, i wrote a lengthy blog post describing google’s “OS ambitions” and in it, i talked about their targeted recruitment of the entire original “plan 9″ team from bell labs (includes rob pike, quinlan, presotto and others) – and sure enough, they went to work on a language (pike) which forms the underpinnings of the os…i also accurately predicted in 2006 that google would flip the switch on a social network by simply anchoring their services to a common standard for uniform identity and interaction (a simple network, versus a fully facebook style one)…hooray for me.
Hi Kevin, well I’m game to toss an entry into the hat. I’m in the running, well at least I applied, for one of the free laptops. An additional chance seems like a good idea. I want to try using the laptop, If I’m lucky enough, to run Ham Radio related software. That being my main hobby after computers.
Merry Christmas
Mike
I wouldn’t mind trying Chrome OS and seeing if I can do everything I currently do on my mbp.
I like the stripped down OS. All I need is a browser in most instances.
I would very much like to have a Chrome OS notebook.
I’m a teacher in the US public schools and this would be the perfect way to have kids working on computers at school.
Please, oh please.
I would very much like a Chrome OS Notebook. Please. Thank you!
I want one!
I love my android phone, especially how it links with things I do on the web, so I’m looking forward to full integration with the OS
I want one
I want a CR-48
Let me help you get rid of one those CR-48 and put it to test. :)
I’d love to win a CR-48 Chrome OS notebook!
pick me – i luv chrome!
Microsoft took a big gamble in putting such a large investment into their mobile platform. It is not looking like it is going to pay off. Will the success of googles mobile platform splash over PC’s with Chrome OS? If it does we may see the downfall of Microsoft.
Oh, and I could use a new laptop :)
I think I would have trouble finding uses for a system like this – but then, I thought that about netbooks and am on my 3rd one. However, even if it’s (possibly) too simplified for me – my parents might find value in it. Or my son, who is one of those people for whom technology just breaks. He can routinely crash a Mac (in fact, the only system he has never crashed is Windows Vista (he’s killed XP & 7)). For him, it might be PERFECT.
I really want to try chrome OS to see how much of my workflow can be done in the cloud.
Santa, I’ve been a good boy. Can I have one, please.
Love the Chrome browser; interested in seeing the OS.
It would be the bestest Christmas ever if I had a CR-48 to play with!
Would love to get one of these laptops to test and play…
The Cloud is Now.
I dont quite buy that this is will be used in the enterprise but for consumers many already only use the web browser. Interesting results when you ask most non-techie people what was the last application they installed other than Itunes?
I spend most of my time on the internet anyway so I don’t think I could mind using an internet based OS
Interested in seeing what the future of cloud computing looks like according to Google.
Comment #420. I’ll smoke while using my new ChromeOS laptop.
I’ll take one!
I’d like to check it out…I go back and forth between Chrome and Firefox for no real technical reason other than a change of scenery. Plus I hate IE.
Some things I’m wondering about:
Is there any way to save stuff locally (there’s 16 gigs in there right)?
Where does all of our stuff go? (So far, I’ve only seen things save in Google Docs.)
I guess alot of people are browsing the site! I tried submitting this post but it gave me a 408 error!
Would be very cool.
Chome OS is great – Acer & Samsung not so much. Would have been more impressed if they had gone with Toshiba.
Me gusta Chrome!
We are witnessing the first phase of cloud computing and i would love to be part of it
We won’t be judging comments, so “pick me – i luv chrome!” is satisfactory, but we’re curious to hear what you really think about Google’s Chrome OS effort.
I think a browser based PC (especially a small, netbook type of PC) is the best idea so far for travelling… The only thing missing will be skype but that can be fixed I’m sure. The Google call feature in Gmail will do but I do like skype for some calls…
Chrome browser in a Chrome laptop. Rrrrrrrr! :)
———————-{ * }——————————
would like one, so that I can do a devastatingly scathing cartoon review of it, then installing windows on it, and giving it to a relative.
———————-{ * }——————————
This will be a nice approach in future computer technology.
I want one :)
Crossing my fingers I might get one! Good luck everyone!
gimme, gimme, gimme
I am curious about Chrome OS.
Chrome OS is pretty awesome but is there any way that Google can do something like Opera Turbo to save data usage when we use the CR-48′s 3G?
I really want a Chrome Laptop. Very curious to see what’s new about this..
I ‘m already using my Chrome browser to the max. Chromed Bird, Google Reader Notifier, Delicious, Google Mail Checker… I believe this might work!
Hope I win!
Would love one
looks fast and fun
Want!
pick me – i luv chrome. As a web developer and former Windows mobile phone user I got an HTC EVO phone 2 months ago and I’m so excited with it that I would really like to check it as a OS.
Thank you
Lemme get one!
I want my stuff to live in the cloud but it’s been too hard in the past to be complete. I’m hoping Chrome OS will force the issue and finally get me there.
I have seen the future and it has a screen, keyboard and mouse pad. You just need to get it down to a powerfully small, cheaply affordable and easily usable.
Just wondering how Google thinks we can not go over 100 mb in 3G usage in a month.
I would love to have one.
Thanks in advance.
I Would love to try one of these.
pick me – i luv chrome!
Also I really do want to see how wireless carriers react to this.
wanting to try this cr-48 badly
Im in.
This thing is going to be great! Go Google!!!
I think Chrome OS is long overdue. The fact it isn’t getting the best reviews is ok, it’s a first release. And some of the reviews are hard on the hardware… Chrome will move to better hardware. The fact is it doesn’t need to be disposable mini hardware. The concept makes a lot of sense.
Chrome OS is great. I wish we could port it though (and have it still work).
“pick me – i luv chrome!” (with quotes for extra effect.)
quite intrigued and in the market for a netbook anyway
I read a hands-on that said you could not use anything without an internet connection. I recall reading that you would be able to work on stuff in gdocs without one. therefore, I would like to find out which is true.
Plus I like playing with stuff.
Hey, I’d love to get Chromed out. Please?
I need one…
I think the idea of having all your personal information stored in the “cloud” – especially when most of that cloud is accessible by Google employees – is extremely creepy.
However, I want a first-hand look at what terrifies me, so….
Yes plz…
i want one..
pick me – i luv chrome!
I wonder what would Chrome OS be like on a x64 computer…
pick me :-)
Stating some obvious facts/questions (not specific to Chrome OS):
- The concept of Chrome OS a step towards more centralized computing, similar to old school “text terminal”.
- Bit better than “text terminal” because more graphical, but is it graphical and responsive enough?
- Offline operation support presume via HTML5. does this provide enough functionality? However more widespread availability of WiFi and mobile wireless do help the centralized computing case. but is bandwidth enough?
- Is there a full functional web app for every desktop app? E.g. MS Office Live is still a subset of its desktop version.
Very excited about the possibilities with Chrome. Fast boot, web access. Everything is moving into the cloud, I’m anxious to be on the cutting edge of the consume movement.
I would be interested to see the Chrome OS. Thank you.
pick me – i luv chrome!

In all seriousness I am interested in how a cloud first device like the Cr48 will integrate into the ecosystem at my customers…
Cloud computing is the way to go for small businesses.
Skeptical, yet very interested in trying it out. Use a few “cloud” solutions right now, but often times it just makes more sense to use my desktop applications.
lemme get one! tired of bummin my wifes pink macbook >_<
I have a Mac and PC, Chrome would make it complete.
This pc will be awesome. The idea that you can never lose your data, because it is stored in the cloud is awesome! This is great for business people and students. You will never forget important presentations or homework again. Hope I get to try one, either from here or from google. This thing will really be a part of bringing the cloud to everyone!
i love chrome !!!!
chromeeee
I think that cloud computing is the way for students and business people. You can never lose important papers or presentations. I want one!!!
“pick me – i luv chrome!
Ooooo! oooOOooo! pick me!!!!
I herd that most of the apps are little more than bookmarks. What good is Chrome when you don’t have an internet connection?
I find you all incredibly attractive, whether or not you’re giving things away. This just makes me want to gaze longingly at your website all the more (from afar of course). Also, I like the search function in chrome, and am willing to give it another try. I used it exclusively for a while when it first came out, but it wouldn’t play any videos for me, which led to my return to firefox.
ALSO, I like netbooks. They take care of all my non-work related needs, because googledocs is good enough for my personal projects, quite frankly.
I hope Chrome can handle media well enough to work in a car as a carpc.
Sure, I’m in. Sounds interesting.
pick me! – i luv chrome?
I’m interested in trying one out to see how well cloud computing does in my real life.
I am actually very anxious about this new operating system. I signed up for the pilot program but unfortunately have not received any surprise packages in the mail yet… Here’s hoping this is my chance!
Pick me! I need Chrome OS!
I don’t fully get it. Maybe I will when I get to see it up close when I win this contest!
pick me – i luv chrome!
Google Chrome OS looks amazing. The one thing that I would like to see is some sort of gaming like OnLive.
And it’s off to the cloud we go!
i am a citizen of cyberspace and Chrome OS will be my passport to information.
It’s the future.
I really only have 4 main screens in my life. Smartphone, Netbook/Tablet, Desktop, and TV. On the netbook/tablet, I really don’t need a desktop or anything to get in my way. I do most everything on the web, and on my netbook, the desktop and OS only get in my way.
pick me – i luv chrome :)
Really interested to see how they do with this. Over the last few years I’ve found myself separating more and more from individual machines (partly due to various hardware headaches), so working in the cloud sounds promising, albeit with potential concerns as well…
I want one.
On my netbook, I don’t need an OS or a desktop. All it does is get in the way.
To be brutally honest, my dad sent me the link and I can’t so no to free stuff. There, I feel a little less dirty now.
I want one.
pick me – i luv chrome!
Chrome OS meets at least 87% of consumers’ needs, at least 87% more effeciently than any other operating system.
Want to try the cloud.
to the Cloud!
Chrome OS looks pretty neat, but definitely needs more than 100MB/month data package.
So, we’ve come full circle. Back in my youth I used dumb terminals and mainframes. Then we got “personal” computers with local storage. Now we’re heading back to, basically, dumb portable terminals that hook to a mainframe-like cloud. Cool.
I’m a fan of Google products and would love to try out their new OS notebook.
Currently I use a macbook pro, but since I do a lot of internet browsing, I would love to test out Google’s new OS notebook.
Who doesn’t need another computer?
Sign me up for this wonderful opportunity
I’m not quite convinced that total cloud-ness like a Chrome machine makes sense, but I’d love to try it for myself to see.
I love playing with new toys/development, so of course I’d like the chance to check one of these out…
Sign me up to this wonderful opportunity
me me me
great idea. hook me up with one of these please.
I’m curious to see how it works offline and how seamless the transition between online and offline is.
A chance to try the new Chrome OS? Sign me up anytime!
I’d love to check out one of the shiny (ok, not so shiny) ChromeOS notebooks. So if you have one to spare, I’d be most appreciative.
“pick me – i luv chrome!”
Thanks for offering these up to your readers!
I wouldn’t mind one
Google and Chrome are at the forefront of cloud computing. I am excited to see the potential for web-based services.
check out chrome and provide feedback
Cr-48 Chrome OS
Would love to check out the Chrome OS!
Sounds interesting.
pick me, I lurve Chrome!
pick me, please
pick me – i luv chrome!
After playing with the new Chrome web apps I’m really interested in playing around with a Chrome laptop.
I will be very interested to see how Google Chrome affects market share for Microsoft. At the very least, it looks like it will be very entertaining….
pick me – I luv Chrome!!!!!
I would love the opportunity to test drive a Chrome OS laptop.
I’d love to try it out.
pick me please – I luv Chrome!!
You have a great website. I have learned a lot from you.
Thank you and happy holidays.
not sure how this compares to a tablet in the long run if the usage pattern is the same for the consumer.
I am a Google head. If Google decided to make sneakers, I’d probably buy them.
I would really love to try one out, I’m hoping it can help me merge things together instead of always being spread across multiple computers! Google has a lot of weight to throw around so I’m interested to see where this goes. And that CR-48 is so understated, I dig it.
Would love to give the CR48 a try.
What will be interesting is predicting when Google will converge all into one platform. being a (somewhat) fast follower behind Apple seems to be working for them, so I guess we can wait for apple to do it.
This is also the first push into what will be the death of the consumer program market… it’s all apps that do a particular thing going forward.
Chrome may be the future of OS’s and app delivery! But I’ll need a CR-48 to be sure…
me
pick me – i luv chrome!
Google Chrome OS is very appealing to me. I appreciate the work that Google seems to be putting in to monitor what the consumer feels about their product before they ship it out.
I’d love to kick the tires on Chrome OS. It’s not every day a new OS is rolled out :-)
my OS is the last frontier of my digital life not yet surrendered to the big G.
Chrome OS!
A PC that can only run a browser?! Perfect. No more clutter.
Would love to try this to be quite honest. I recently bought a used iPhone, so I won’t get getting an android anytime soon, but I’m a big fan of all google products. Thanks to google, most of my stuff is now in the cloud.
There do seem to be some drawbacks to the system and obstacles to overcome, but I am really interested in the cr-48. It seems like a good test step in the evolution of computing. Plus, even though it’s not important, I love the design! So sexy
I’ll Enter.
I think the Chrome OS is an interesting concept. I wonder about the viability of a browser-focused OS like this, but would certainly be curious to try it out.
I’m 70 and work in the IT field. It has been my hope that CHROME OS would really “keep it simple” both for speed of processing and the speed of familiarization. Help me beat GOOGLE’s hat trick!
Dennis
Random is good. I hate being forced to write groveling essays.
would like to try it out
“pick me – i luv chrome!”
I don’t think my previous comment went through…
I think there are some serious obstacles to overcome with this system and critics to win over but it is definitely a good test step in the evolution of computing. Plus, the design is amazing. So sexy!
Save my marriage! We have only one PC in the house, and my wife and I fight over it. With the CR-48, no more marriage counseling bills (well, as long as I’m the one using it).
The “cloud” is going to (and already is) a major part of our personal and work lives. A large amount of applications, both at home and at work, make more sense to be on-line than off.
I already use cloud apps for a lot of my needs and that will only increase over time.
I think if Google can tighten up ChromeOS so it doesn’t have any obvious loose ends (which I’m hoping they will do), and they can get it sitting on some nice, well designed devices (which is a bit harder as oems aren’t always very good at that) and have it on the shelves for cheap (~300-400 or so) then I think they’ll get a lot of buyers.
Oh, and ya, I want one of those CR-48 thingies for myself too.
If I get elected for a CR-48 then I promise to lower your taxes!
Pick me! Pick me! I think that the IE9 stold your browser design.
I’m down. I’d love to tinker with one of these.
Chrome, want, brains…
I use Chrome a lot on my desktop at home. As a writer, I think that little 12″ laptop would be really nice to carry around and use throughout the day. Also, I didn’t get the luck of the draw at the Google site.
I want one. Thats all.
Chrome OS is no perfect withhout Gigaom, is that good enough?
Great and thanks.
Happy Holidays!
This is an amazing concept but 100MB/month is too low. Lets see if I can get my hands on one. I typically use around 4-5GB/month on my droidx.
pick me
I did sign up for the pilot program, but would love to make sure I get one, haha. I live in the browser and travel frequently. Verizon’s service is sometimes the only coverage I have and it would be great to have. I’ve used ChromeOS once, but would love to beta test it.
Google’s chrome os… A birth of many wonderfully integrated sub-pc environments to work in. A nice, naked laptop design. One for the ages.
Google REALLY can’t mess this up when it comes to the hardware it finally ships. This could be the next generation of computing or something that sets it back another couple of years…
Oh, and, pick me!
In my opinion Google has just started its bid against Apple’s market share by carving out a niche market for itself in the form of browser based OS.
I see a big future in the cloud, and would love to see what all with google introduce once it has people hooked onto cloud, do you think, it would also bid for Dropbox or some other cloud based storage systems to actually give us all the seamless experience.
Let’s see… count me in for the Cr-48, I would love to give it a shot!
Thanks
Personally I think that this is perfect for the average user but that it isn’t for the extremities (music lovers, movie watchers, big businesses, and gamers.)
Well In my opinion, from what I’ve seen in the unboxings and the videos the laptops seem pretty generic in itself, but doesn’t look too bad but the OS on the other hand I would say has been knocked out of the park by Google the question is will the public adapt this even after all the OSes that have been released I’m sure they’ve already picked one up , so what’s the point of picking up another one? Also since this is an internet based OS does that make it completely immobile without? Another downside is that we can’t run anything besides google chrome. However, with downsides I’m sure there are upsides like no viruses , web apps, files “in the cloud.” Overall, I say that Microsoft and Apple better watch out because this OS is legit.
Best feature I like in chrome notebook is instant connectivity to internet once you power the device – big plus for me to go for this device.
Pick me I love Chrome!!!!! I think its a wonderful idea, although i am curious as to if we will be able to download programs and save files, if so will it be on a server???is the information going to be safe??? regardless i imagine it will make the internet experience run smoother than ever before with no other useless presses running in the background taking up space i think it will be light speed i cant wait!!!!Oh i so hope you pick me!!!!!
I would love to have this device.
Since my chances of getting one off the Pilot Program are pretty slim, heres to Hope…
pick me – i luv chrome!
Interested in getting rid of my desktop and taking everything to the cloud…I spend all my time on the internet anyway. Also, Dec 14th is my birthday! =]
Call me old school … can’t quite get my head around the Chrome OS proposition. Seeing it in personal would go some distance in terms of making it “real.”
Hope to get picked, tomorrow’s my bday!
Yes please! :-)
I think it has awesome possibilities
I love Google products, pick me!
Well, in my opinion the google chrome OS in itself, is flawed yet still a revolution. The Chrome OS may be open-sourced but the operating system only allows Google no Firefox no Windows maybe in due time we’ll see Firefox or Windows Word as a word app but it’s just like the Beatles and the Apple v Apple case . What happens when there is no internet ,there may be Verizon’s 100mB broadband but for how long? Another flaw is who needs another operating system by this time of the century over 1 billion people of the 6 billion have OS whether Ubuntu,Linux,Windows, or Leopard they already have OSes what room is there left for Google? People need to first accept and embrace this OS.However,This like Google has many times before, behind it’s flaws, will still change the face of the internet forever. No longer is the USB flash drive or the trojans of yesterday we will be “in the cloud.” into google and beyond – A Googler @abouttandoutt@gmail.com
I’ve pretty much already turned my entire life over to the Goog, why not make it complete? Would you do that for me? Would you guys please complete me?
I do believe that I would like one.
Need something to explore, Ubuntu is starting to bore me.
I want Chrome OS now!!!!
Hi , Angels live in Cloud and Sky , is there one waiting for me named as Chrome ?
Chrome me!
IMO, there are still some issues with Chrome (the browser) that need to be ironed out before it can be used as a single interface to the underlying OS. But things look promising. Would like to give it a shot. Thanks!
Chrome!!!!
Well, in my opinion the Google chrome even through it’s flaws is in essence a revolution. ’nuff said – A Googler but being a web-based OS doesn’t have me up in arms without the internet the laptop is basically a disabled pile of junk. However with the internet it’s amazing.. and not being able to use Windows Word or Firefox maybe a downfall and I don’t expect Windows Word to be a web app anytime soon it’ll be like Beatles Apple v Apple however in the end I think the OS will be a legit competitor when it comes down to the bare bones
Hard to figure where this device fits in the space staked out by the iPad and netbooks. But I’ll try one for free :’)
it has good possibilities

Will this be faster and better than tablets?
You complete me, cr-48 and Chrome OS.
pick me – i luv google
pick me – i luv chrome!
But really…
If they’re putting android on tablets, aren’t they wondering about cannibalizing market share. What is the real difference between the android platform and the chromeOS? Is it just touch?
“pick me – i luv chrome!” is satisfactory
My comment didn’t get through last time so I try again (stupid mobile safari)
I am genuinely interested in trying to use a cloud-only computer as my primary device.
pick me – i luv chrome
I WANT A CR48 SOOOO BAD!!!
Like the 564 people who posted before me, I would love to try out the chrome book.
Look forward to using it!
Would like to see what my little girl and and my home business could do with this. The idea of running my business on cloud computing is very interesting to me.
would be awesome to win a cr48 notebook. It’d be a nice way to usher in the cloud.
Yes, please. I am un-evolved as yet, make me a Crome Magnon Man…
I am a believer that cloud computing will be the future, why should ones hardware dictate an experience when simply by pulling down the content to any device your using at the time, another thing I’d like to see is one data subscription shared by all of ones devices.
Give it to me…I love Google and Chrome
We would love to win one of these for our son, just in time for Christmas. We have missed all of the black Friday deals, and can’t pay full price for a functional laptop. But Our son need a computer for his school work.
Fast booting is cool….assuming you have wifi available.
Webapps/Virtual desktop is the future of the internet and imagine how much enteprise can save $ in moving all there employess to virutal dekstop where everything is on the web and can sync to all the devices to the cloud. No need to patch millions of desktops/laptops instead just path the server in the cloud , and a app the companies can devleop for the smartphone which can securly access the imp apps used heavily by the employess. Offcoruse others benefits too.. but i guess still its too early but not that late also .. lets test it and give a chance for google to make chrome OS the next thing as many try to do this in the past but nobody made the move Hats off to GOOGLE to the move…
mmmmmmm, ChromeOS
pick me – i luv chrome!
this looks like an old black macbook but i want it anyway…
I want to try this out since I have tried all Google products before launch.
@Daniel
What’s the point of a PC that is bogged down by third-party apps, extremely large file-systems, and viruses? Still, I think I’d like the Cr-48. In fact, I know I will.
as bill gates once said “I WANT IT!!!” … I am interested in receiving one of these to test and play with.
I am really interested in winning one of these to play with this.
I’d like me some new fangled chrome
I use a Macbook from 4 years ago, and while it is perfectly functional, a laptop with the Chrome OS would be awesome.
I want one.
I want one. Now.
Not sure why, but I know I want one. :)
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGLE!
It looks like ChromeOS will only be useful for very, very limited circumstances, but I’m curious to see the whole package for myself….
cloud computing has been promised, i think its time. pick me!
Gimme some Chrome goodness!
I’d like to try the google machine
I am an Apple fan but love to test how Chrome OS works.
You guys know all too well what I do on my blog, and I’ve been a faithful follower of your site for years. I would be a very happy recipient of a Chrome netbook, and I can assure you it will be put to the best use!
I would love to test out chrome OS
I’d love to get my hands on one of these!
Vinegar is sweet when its for free. Give me one, please.
Let’s see if the actual product matches up to the hype!
I want to help Google make Chrome OS accessible for everyone.
Google’s OS seems promising to me…
pick me – i luv chrome!
Interesting idea, I want in!!!!
I think it is interesting how many reviewers find the hardware to be the best thing about the computer. The OS is great, but obviously appears to need some fine tuning.
Is this giveaway just a marketing scheme?
Still love Chrome OS!
I think it is funny that the NPR and NYTimes webapps are nearly identical to their iPad apps
I’d love to have one for my classroom!
I’m very curious to see how chrome OS would change the future of the OS market.
Chrome OS might be my favorite color.
Competition is good.
I’d love to try one out!
Most of the perception of an OS comes from its responsiveness and the usability of its desktop. If the Chrome OS is managed by Google (as far as app availability and updates are concerned), then much of the success rides on how well they handle this.
Hey – Pick me!!!! I would like to check this system out.
I personally have never been disappointed with google’s products, including the Chrome browser (which I’m using right now). I think the laptop, even though it’ll be a beta, will probably exceed the performance of any ole laptop.
pick me – i luv chrome!
It would be interesting to see if I could use a cloud only device for my work and play… OK just for my work.
pick me i luv chrome…yeah baby
I’m moving more and more to the cloud in my personal and profession life so I believe Google’s Chrome OS is on the right track — they have the next Windows on their hand (although the metaphor is not exact).
I’m really interested in seeing how ChromeOS takes to the public. I’m part of a computer club at a local community college and we research thin clients, emulation, and imaging solutions. It should be interesting to see if this cloud computing really goes somewhere for the general public.
PS. pick me XD.
I WANT CHROME!!!
I think google’s creativity is genius here, and you guys are right on to be excited. Chrome will be the methodology others will copy – this will seem so obvious 10 years from now.
I love CHROME!
Well honestly i would just like to have a computer to do my school work on instead of sitting in the library with all the losers. O yea i love Google and android :-) and it would be kinda cool to beta test something.
I want one! My kids could use a homework machine, and I could use a fun machine! Count me in.
When will Chrome OS be released? Hoping that I can get one first!
Would love to try it out. Have been using google chrome forever and love it. Pick me ;)
Would love to try a tablet that gives me the full internet and not the watered down version the iPad provides. Exciting to test something that pushes the envelope.
I think google is absolutely on the right page here – and you guys are right to be excited about this effort. In 10 years, this technology will feel so obvious, but today it is an evolution I am extremely excited about.
looking to upgrade from my dell mini 9, please pick me.
Hello World! I would love to tinker with a Chrome Netbook.
This OS, installed on a notebook, with built in 3G networking just sounds amazing. Easily 90% of what I do on the PC is done in Chrome. Another 5% I can do in chrome but I use separate apps. The other 5% could wait till I get home. ;) As long as Google can make these devices as affordable as they did with Android the sky is the limit.
would love to try this out :)
I have been wondering about the way chrome os would work. I work for an Insurance Comapany have provide IT support 24×7. All i need is a webbrowser with citrix installed and I am ready to go. If the chrome os notebook and do that and if its light weight…..I will be the first to buy it. If I win it I will test it for my work.
More and more of what I do has migrated to the web. I have an Android phone and already use Chrome browser as my main driver, would be interesting to give the Chrome OS a drive as well.
I got to hold my co-worker’s Cr-48 today and would love to use it more.
HOhoHO!!!
I’m not sure that I’d buy the Chrome OS laptop, but hey: it’d be nice to try it out.
Seems to be more the future of computing. Pretty excited to use this as a daily device.
100MB is really the bare minimum data package you would be able to get by on though.
I am very interested to try out the new OS!
Not a huge fan of the OS, but hey, always up for a giveaway and would love to try the hardware.
I love Chrome?
I will love to win chrome netbook and try hand on it.
I want to live in the cloud! Pick me!
Chrome browser is awesome…thanks for the chance to get a CR-48.
I really like the looks of the thing … no stickers!
I think that chrome os is a great idea. i personally love the idea of cloud computing and would like to see how it is implemented by a computer that is designed with cloud computing in mind. I’m very excited to see how chrome os and the chrome laptop turn out
Definitely would like to give it a try. :)
Chrome OS is going to be a huge disruption for Microsoft’s enterprise business. Oh, and I love the raffle idea!
pick me – i luv chrome!
I’d love a Chrome laptop. I think that this has a major benefit of the iOS devices – I can hand it to my wife or mom (both technophobes) and not worry about getting them started with getting online or worrying about the OS. I think this is a great direction for simple consumer oriented devices to go.
Lucky number 673
Chrome OS and netbook.. I love it
I don’t think my last comment worked so i’m trying again. anyway i love google so i want this laptop haha
I’d love to try one
I think google is right on with Chrome, and you guys are right on be excited about this technology. In 10 years, this technology will seem so obvious, but today it is revolutionary.
I cannot wait to see how well Google OS runs, its truly a unique one of a kind OS system never created before. Google products are by far the best.
Gimme the goods.
I’m wicked excited about being able to try it, so I’m entering!
REALLY hoping to get one of these laptops if only for a month or so to test it out.
-James
I figured we would eventually move to cloud based systems for everything. Can’t wait to try one of these out!
Google products are by far the best.
Would LOVE LOVE this laptop!!
I tried to post, but it isn’t showing up…sorry if this is a re-post
I love chrome! All I want for Christmas is a Cr-48!
So many entries.. Really tough unless u r very lucky
I just want to put _____ on it! :)
Pick me! Pick me! I love chrome
I would love to try one.
I could care less about the notebook, I just want the free Verizon 100mb a month.
would love to check this out.. have been fully google integrated for the past year and loving it… this would complete my gadget collection
Sweet! So excited to give one of these a try!
I wanna this……..
I want me some CHROME!!
All you filz are belong to us!!!
(I’m not sure if I want them to have access to EVERYTHING on the laptop.)
Woot, woot!
I love mobile technology and would have loaded the OS on my netbook but currently you cannot dual boot with Windows 7. I would love to try the Chrome OS.
Did I do this right?
I would love to try out Chrome OS and experience cloud computing first hand. I have been using Mac for a year now and want to see the difference in the user experience. Although I have been using Chrome browser for some time now, I think it’s still great to try out an operating system and web browser in one. Compounded by the fact that I am a computer science major at MIT, I would love to try out changing my computing habit and see the pros and cons. Pick me please! I am the best choice.
Not sold on Chrome yet but would love to give it a try.
I luv chrome os
PICK ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could care less about chrome or the laptop I just want the free 100MB data from Verizon.
I want one!
Grrr. Is someone trying to crash the site to improve their odds? I would love to beta this product and would like a fair shake at a chance to win.
Google Chrome netbook plz come to me.
I would like to test drive a Chrome OS notebook.
A wild line of thought to bring an OS for the connected world. A wifi world is just what we are waiting for now.. All the best to Google…
pick me – i luv chrome!
This would be a great early christmas gift :)
Another exciting new venture by Google. Given that this device is intended to be a netbook, and not just a mobile internet device, I’m not sure the bundled data would be enough for most users. Still, I have high hopes for this device- hopefully it won’t go the way of Google Wave and Nexus One!
Outside of pretty GUI, cloud computing seems like the old days of dialing into a big, expensive mainframe from your little inexpensive terminal. Welcome to the “future.” ;)
please don’t (!=) pick me ;)
I really want to win this.
I am an international student at an American College and I want to give feedbacks on how useful is this product in meeting the needs of people whose mother tongue is not English.
A PC that is constantly connected to the cloud is SUCH a novel idea. Everyone is saying “Oh, I don’t know how this is going to work.”, but didn’t everyone say the same thing when the mouse came around? Or windows? I know I can’t be the only one who sees all the hidden potential in Chrome OS.
can’t wait to try my hands on a machine with a browser based OS. I bet I will miss out a lot ..
I really want to test this product in order to improve how it fulfills the needs of the general public. I am also really interested in looking at how useful it is for people whose English is not their first language since I am an international student in an American college.
I want to get hands on it..
The future is hardware agnostic, now I just need some sort of free laptop to prove it….
I think the power of the netbook now lies with Google’s new Chrome computer. Seriously, a netbook should be fast to load from startup and have nearly instantaneous access to the internet. When I need access to a hard-drive, I’ll go home, or power up my computer.
Secondarily, for education, this could finally be the device that levels the digital playing field. Up to this point computers, even netbooks, have a price point barrier that keeps all students from accessing the internet at school and possibly home. Can’t wait to see it in action. I hope it proves itself!
Chromosomez
Please pick me!!! xoxoxo
Would love to see how the chrome os works
I think google’s approach has been inspirational.
first off, trying to create as many products as possible is no easy task, and yet their also focusing on creating free apps as well.
As each day passes and googles, pours more money into better products, i’ll finally be rid of office, paypal, ie, and so many other outdated and useless programs…
thanks google, keep it up.
Seems like a really good idea for most people since most of us spend our life on the web. Rarely, I get around to using an application but mostly its Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Forums, etc. That’s probably what Google intends to build on and all I have to say to them is – “Go Google!” – They’ve never built a product that I haven’t adored.
I’m looking for a netbook this holiday season! This is perfect!
Angles live in Cloud and i am waiting to meet them in form of Google Chrome !!!
Would love to see how it can be applied as a system from a programmer’s point of view.
I hope you randmly pick me! I am a fan of all things Google!
I am not sure, how Chrome OS for notebooks works in the world of tablets. Do Netbooks actually have a place in the market?
Well my first comment somehow just didn’t go through because it’s not visible.
CR-48 is a pretty nice concept. I’ve been reading reviews and most people can’t live with it, but I can’t see why not. It is relatively simple enough and with that Dev Switch the computer is just like any other netbook/notebook.
Please pick me!!!!
So,Pick me cuz,I want to test cloud services and Apps.Im a IT student so this would be great!
I would love to test the cloudbook!
I am a college student that needs this whole concept of powering on instantly and sending you to the web. In reality I use the web for just about every thing. Would love to try one out!! PICK ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PICK ME!!!!
pick me! i love chrome!
It will be good experience to try google Netbook
Pick me!
I would love to give chrome os a shot. it would fit my current lifestyle perfectly.
Hopefully I’m chosen to receive one of these machines, and probably give my netbook to my little sister since I only use the netbook for internet access anyway. Oh yeah, PICK ME. THX
Pick me?
Pick me..I wanna win this.
O, Gods of Randomness and Luck, pick me!
I would love to get my hands on one of these laptops.
Not a big believer in cloud computing mainly due to security but still would like to try one out!
The idea is kind of fun to me. Get rid of the conventional storage and enter the world of cloud computing.
Though might have privacy concern…
Waiting for it to come.
I want one. Please let me have a Chrome laptop. But err, if I do get one, would you ship it outside U.S.?
I will give it a try!
Thanks GigaOm, I’d love to try it out
Free Google Netbook .. I am in
I need one so bad!
I want to try the new ChromeOS and have 100mb of data plan each month :)
oo oo pick me
pick me – i luv chrome!
love to give it a try and want to have one.. thank you..
I want to try the new ChromeOS and 100mb of data plan free a month!
Pick me :)
Happy holiday :]
would love to have one!
It’s going to be interesting to see if Google can pull it off. First and foremost we are condition to our desktop pc and the powerful and rich processing we’ve experience. How can they duplicate this experience within the browser?
I would love the opportunity to try this new beta OS out. I am an avid google user and no matter if I get this opportunity or not when Google OS comes out I will be there to purchase it.
P.S. I love you Google.
Id hope to get one so i am not waiting for google.
“pick me – i luv chrome!”
Pick me – I luv chrome
I want! I want! I’m curious to see the limits (if any) of online applications. I’ve used chrome basically since it came out. I shudder each time my Apple friend uses my computer & opens Microsoft’s explorer. Anyways…I wish myself good luck!
dustinross4@gmail.com
i love google and chrome and am dying to get the new notebook! :D
I’m really interested in what a browser only experience would be like on a day to day basis. Hope I can get a CR-48!
pick me – i luv chrome!
ChromeOS would be great when networking is ubiquitous and reliable. I am interested to see if the OS requires user to be online always. When user moves offline to online, will the data be seamlessly managed.. Give me one !
Oh and also a nice way to guage readership by gigaom :)
ZOMG, I want one!
The idea of google chrome os is fascinating, but the lack of native apps is kinda new. Love to give it a try
Really want to see how this is different than the Atom-netbook fad that liberated me of $200.
I’ve been wanting to see what chrome os will do, this would be great.

Thin client is so ’97, I still want tho!
Could Google Chrome be the OS of choice for people who can’t afford or don’t care about a commercial OS like OS X or Windows? I feel the time has come for socializing computing for everyone – Google Chrome could be the answer. Let people pay for apps and services – not the OS itself.
Please, please give me one. Cloud computing will be the future and a glimpse into it would be awesome.
Chrome OS is a game changer. It will be interesting to We how this works f
Pick me – i luv chrome! jk I love you!
If for no reason other than competitive research… I’m game.
Pick me! I’m a geek, developer and would root it in an instant and try my apps on it to see how it performs.
I luv to get my hands on this animal!
I will get it as soon as its available!
It sounds very interesting. what happens if you use a program that is not available on line?
Pick me, I love chrome!!
Fingers crossed.
would love to have one !!!
Google is skynet. So conform to it!
New BuzzWord Alert: “CLOUD EXPLORER”
Remember the browser wars? Well, the ‘Cloud Wars’ have begun. Microsoft is positioning Windows7 as its gateway to Azure. Google has at least two now – Android and Chrome. Will Chrome support deep integration with Azure, and will Microsoft allow that? I see the ‘clouds’ of monopolistic practices somewhere in the horizon, maybe they will fade away and maybe not.
On a different note, the enterprise is just scratching the surface of Cloud Computing, and Chrome is already exploring it for the end-user.
The internet is so passe, and has become just another app on the Cloud. So I guess it is time we coined the term “Cloud Explorer” :). On second thoughts, is this a new buzzword? I just Google’d it on Chrome and saw a reference to Azure – Go figure! Anyway, I’ll take first dibs just in case :-).
I am interested to see how it works and use it…
I feel fluid like a drift in the ocean nestled safe and efficient in the Chrome OS – I am home!!!
Sign me up. I would like one.
Google’s products are reliable. I love google, and I wish I can work for google after I graduate.
I want one =D !!!
If cloud computing is the future, or at least a big part of it, then I look forward to seeing how Google approaches things and how it will set itself apart from not only cloud systems, but the OS giants that exist already.
Meh, why not…
Darn thing making me twitchy.
I just wanted to know if it is open for India based users as well?
when it comes to computers, i pretty much live in the chrome browser. i have been waiting for chrome OS since it was announced, and have been dying for a google netbook since they were announced.
I would like to try it out
my boyfriend turned me on to the chrome browser, and has me excited about chrome OS and the new notebooks. i love the idea of cutting out all the other junk from a laptop that most people dont really need, and a lot dont even want. like me, i only really want to use my laptop for internet. these sound like the perfect gadget for me.
Chrome Os could be one of the best things google has made (if they play their cards right). Im looking forward to see what they have done …
I think Google is onto something, and I’d really like to give it a try!
Always like to try new tech.
Crossing fingers and waiting.
If chrome is like google’s other products, I’m sure that I’ll love it. Thanks
Good luck to all!
Would love to have one and try it out…
great idea!!! use the k.i.s.s. principle — basic functionality to get access
pick me – i luv chrome!
I’d love to field test a Chrome Tablet!
I like living in the cloud as much as the next guy but it seems odd just to be in the browser all the time. Still, maybe this is just the thing needed to convince us.
I’m looking forward to a real ChromeOS experience.
pick me
Great publication! Love reading you guys everyday…
Add Me In! I dont know, A lot of people dont think this is going to be a good idea just being a browser based PC, with only web apps. I would love to get one for college, that would be a perfect way to test it. Hoping for the best, I need a PC..
Thanks for the opportunity guys!! You rock!
Take Care,
Cody
cloud computing is the perfect answer to memory issues in laptops. cannot wait to get one.
Looking forward to getting my absolutely free, cloud based OS.
Sign me up.
COUNT ME IN!!
Some people think that Google OS is going to be a waste of time, and there is no point to not have a desktop with dedicated apps. But if I hopefully, can get one, I will only need the internet anyway. I will be using it for college and dont need a whole dedicated OS for my school work. Heck, it will keep me on track, instead of playing games and stuff.
Thanks for the opportunity!
Take Care,
Cody
I think that the idea of living in the cloud is great. I am interested to see how they handle the offline experience, since we all know that you cannot get coverage everywhere.
Chrome will give consumers another choice. This is never a bad thing. I’m interested in what Google has come up with.
I am a huge fan of Chrome (all Google products in fact) and would love to get my hands on one to play with
I would love to check it out. I’ll even post a review on gigaom if I get one. Thanks.
After struggling with a Dell Mini 12 running Ubuntu all to get on the web and only the web, sign me up Chrome OS. All I do is on the web so i’m a worthy tester.
PS Anyone want to buy the Dell?
Love the Google!!
pick me – i luv chrome!
Just curious!
Never heard of it. But I’m curious and therefore deserving of a laptop.
Would not mind trying one out!
I’m a little confused by Google’s seemingly cannibalistic approach to Chrome and Android, but I’d love to test anything that has the potential to disrupt Windows.
I hope I win!
love chrome!!
I’m curious how full-functional it will be as an offline computer and it’s local storage/file navigation ability.
Would like to see how useful a cloud only device can be. I have implemented a partial cloud on my phone, but have never fully depended on the cloud.
pick me – i luv chrome! I need give me, give me.
I use Chrome as my main browser, google docs and google mail – having a dedicated machine would be awesome.
I’m curious how it will perform as an offline computer.
Being a developer, it’ll be interesting to see if this is another ‘walled garden’ paradigm like Apple, or if Google will really embrace a wide-open ecosystem of third-party solutions.
pick me – i luv chrome!
“Prediction: ChromeOS will be killed next year (or “merged” with Android)” – Paul
Please allow me to hold her before she is no more!
Would love to test out a Chrome OS machine.
I think its a great opportunity to test next big Hit from Google….
I loved Gmail, Loved Android and I think its time for Chrome to take on Apple and MS machines….
Last day entry.. I hope i got lucky to enter in time and will be lucky to win one of 5.
me,me, please
Would love to try this out. please pick me up.
After reading a lot of reviews, I have to say that many more applications needs to move to the cloud. With services like OnLive that can deliver full resolution Pc games to any platform via a browser, i’d like to see companies like Adobe move it’s entire product line to the cloud. Then of course have some sort of off-line cache enabled so apps don’t freeze if a connection is lost. Maybe some kind of hybrid app delivered via steam where core components are downloaded and installed locally while the main app itself runs i the cloud. With a local cache, it could be a way to save data or capture it when loss of connectivity happens then allow some work to continue until connection is reestablished.
I’m really interested in getting my hands on one of these to test it’s limitations and push it as far as I can. Maybe the’ll sell me on it. I hope so. Sounds very interesting.
purty please?
The idea of Chrome OS is quite exciting since most work can now be done online. I will be very interested in trying it out.
I typed up this big response and I don’t see it here. I don’t mean to reply twice but I do want a shot at one of these. I would love to test out browser based cloud computing and push it to the limits. I see a lot of potential here especially with game delivery via the web browser like with OnLive. If we can get major software manufacturers to push their products to the cloud (like Autodesk and adobe and Microsoft and others)then the possibilities of cloud computing are endless. The computer industry can get bakc to making money on both hardware and software and take a huge step towards defeating piracy once and for all.
Google Chrome is really hitting a great key target audience from this effort as well as offering up free WiFi on Virgin flights (which prompts users to download Chrome). Still not sure how I feel about their branded hardware…
I’ve never used an OS other than those in the MSFT family. So I’m interested. (Yes, I have a rather primitive cellphone.)
As I find myself using Google Docs and Chrome more frequently every day, this seems like a natural progression. Not sure about the limited data plan from VZ, though.
Seriously, what next from Google? I would be very inclined to watch it closely as Google has yet to prove in industrial design and dealing with tech gadget.
Never used chrome, but applaud any attempt to have real competition.
Chrome me up, Scotty!
Interested to see what Chrome is like as an OS. So please pick me!
As long as it has some non-cloud based games to run when the internet goes down (or…when there is none), I’ll be happy. Productivity cloud apps for the airport terminal, games for the flight.
Excited to get one, whether through this or actually buying it.
Would be excited to give it a test run.
Very interested in checking one of these out. Good Luck everyone.
pick me I luv chrome
Of course i want one for free!!! ;D
Haven’t received anything from Google yet, so maybe I’ll have better luck here…thanks for the contest, jkOTR!
WOW. Will this give MS the shits?
Hello Gigaom team
3 years ago I started to work as Software QA Engineer. In this time I worked on several huge projects. Having this netbook on my hands I will help to improve this revolutionary operating system by sending relevant feedback, bugs and enhancements to Google team.
Thanks!
Chrome me up baby!
“pick me – i luv chrome!”
I definitely think this could be a next step in computing – we already use apps for nearly everything, finally someone is taking advantage of that in an OS.
I definitely think this could be a next step in computing – we already use apps for nearly everything, finally someone is taking advantage of that in an operating system
How will i play my games?
I’ve seen a lot of OS’s come and go, I’m really interested in finding our where Chrome ends up in the ecosystem.
I would like one.
This looks like an interesting idea, and I’d love to try out something new.
Would really like a chance to beta test this stuff. Have a hard time getting internet while I’m out, so this would be great.
I’ll admit I’m a huge fan (mostly) of what Google does and have experienced the good (gmail, gchat, gmaps, Nexus one, etc) with the bad (buzz, wave, G1 phone). So I definitely would be interested to try Chrome OS out and be part of the beta cycle!
I think Chrome will be short-lived, merging with Android within a year. However, I’d like to test it out and see how well it works at this point.
I managed to get Hexxeh’s Chromium OS build for Macs running off a USB drive on my MacBook:
http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/
It’s an exciting OS but a bit of a cludge running it on the MacBook. I’d love to get my hands on the CR-48!
The spirit of Christmas lives at Jkontherun!
would love to try it out.
It is great to have Chrome book to test the google latest innovations and hack.
Please include me
chrome vs android? hmm. need a cr-48 for proper comparison
I am already camping at my mailbox looking for your mailed pacakge!
CHROME OS will finally unseed MSFT Windows from this world. Why doesn’t anyone else see it this way?!
PLEASE PICK ME, I love when you’re a guest on TWIG!!!!!!!!
pick me – i luv chrome! lolz
It would be cool if I won!
Chrome is GOLDEN!
A system like this is ideal for those who use web-based tools. My business, for example, is completely web-based. I can do all my presentations without having to load expensive software or have everything slowed down by a kludgey, bloated operating system for which I need to have all kinds of security programs running just to keep it from being hacked or riddled with viruses.
I’d love to try!
I love the idea of internet based OS. When I use computer, I woud most likely be using a brower.
I think pricing will be a huge factor in having this catch on. Not having to stress over having a laptop stolen is a huge deal. Go Chrome os!
It may not replace note books. It may be useful for people who only just browse. Google trying with different concept instead of following others. I doubt the success of this device.
I entered the Pilot program. No contact yet. Would love to test one of these out. The uses they potentially have in Ministry are exciting!
I’m interested in how this might be used in learning at Universities like mine.
pick me – i luv chrome!
pick me – i luv chrome!
Really I do.
Google Chrome browser is my fav and I’d love to try out the OS too!
I’ll take a billion of them!
Google Chrome: If Chrome is half the help gmail has been, then I’m ALL in.
Chrome browser is great. The OS should be great too!
chrome os looks very exciting – a lightweight version of what i already use my netbook for. can’t wait until it’s officially released next year.
Pick me. I guess i am one of candidate who is best suitable for this laptop. I am starter blogger and my lot of time goes online and internet only as its demands of my job. Google chrome is designed as web OS and only for those people who spent lot of time on internet. I do everything from editing videos, account mgmt to learning cooking, blogging online. So pick me up.
I am 70, cant afford a tablet, pick me.
I won!! I won!!! – just practicing.
Cloud computing rules! Cannot wait for Chrome OS!
I would love to be a tester, because I believe capacity of devices in the future will be a problem to developers who create more elaborate apps requiring more storage. Its human nature to make larger when improving.
The Bubba
Bill
Would like to try!
LOVE SOME CHROME OS!!!
I HOPE I WIN!
I really do think this is the future of operating systems and Google hit the nail on the head with this. Sure, it still is going to have some bugs and kinks to work out, but within a year I predict that Chrome OS will be everywhere.
As a Google fan and avid user this is a must try!!!
As a blogger and lover of technology, I’m very interested in seeing how the Cr-48 will let users explore the world of cloud computing.
Google Netbook will be nice to have one. Will be good in point of trans portion, portability and travel. I think you need only to access only web or internet when you are travelling or going somewhere.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all Good Night!
What a merry Christmas this would be ! Oh to go Chrome !
The Chrome OS will be the first real cloud computer. The Microsoft ‘To The Cloud’ advertising nonsense will become quite confusing once Chrome OS is widely available to non-geek users all around.
This will be a very interesting experiment in computing – Do people really just want a web browser & Internet connection, or are they quite happy with a hard drive? I think a hybrid approach will be the end result, since ‘the cloud’ is getting hammered with security breaches as of late (not to be confused with the Microsoft tagline ‘to the cloud’). I’m curious to use the new notebook to see exactly how this OS works with remote storage.
I just hope being a regular follower of Gigaom pays off this time. :-| Pick me!
I’ve been all Apple for 20+ years and would love to try out the Google notebook.
pick me – i luv chrome!
lol
Very interesting to test how cloud PC works in real world.
ok, let’s see will it beat my macbook if i won it!
i want it more than life
I’m interested in the thin client model returning. I’d love to play with Chrome OS.
I work on the go and the Chrome OS would be great for me. All I need to do is connect to the cloud and work from there! Looking forward to trying it!
I would love to test out a google chrome notebook
The comparison is between Firefox and Chrome and it is early.
pick me – i luv chrome!” I’ve been wanting to try the OS
As mentioned elsewhere, I hope someone retains the clean, spartan look of this prototype device.
I’ve gradually been moving towards working solely in “the cloud.” I would like to try a Chrome OS laptop and see if I can in fact survive there!
I want one
I’d love to try a Chrome laptop. I want to see how Chrome deals with online/offline use. I love the “idea” of a net-centric cloud-based machine but I spend hours/days offline and still need access to my work files/e-mail.
I love Google, I use Google EVERYDAY for the free office Apps, Microsoft Office is such a money grubbing program that I never even considered buying it, when Google released Google Docs, I instantly fell in love.
Usually, I’m an early adopter of all things technical but I have yet to give Chrome a whirl. I know — kinda lame. If I won a Chrome OS laptop, I’d write a review about it on the Boingo blog and provide copious details of my experience, courtesy of GigaOm. Thanks!
good luck everyone!
Good luck everyone!
I’d love to win one of these! I’ve been playing with the Chrome web/app store and I like where this is going. It’s like Google’s vision of Apple’s Mac OS X App Store. Apps on a computer aren’t such a bad idea, but I think that they make a lot more sense when you can access them from multiple locations/devices.
Quick Boot is why I would like to have Chrome OS Laptop.
Time to go back to Mainframe era!
Chrome = Cloud = True Mobility
Chrome OS is finally bringing true cloud computing to the masses! Do it Google!
i really want it and if you picking randomly thats all i m righting
I tried posting once before, but it doesn’t show up on the comments… trying again. I really would love a Cr-48 notebook!
Good luck everyone!
I really want to see if I can do coding with Chrome as an OS
I am curious to learn more about the Google Chrome OS, and would love to test drive it!
i really need a notebook please give me one
Cloud computing is the future!
please i need a gift i am desprate please pick me
Pick ME
I already use webapps in chrome for everything and would really like an upgrade from my slow windows machine to chrome without a real background OS.
Chrome is an awesome browser.
I also have to use multiple computers and the cloud is almost a way for me to have my computer and files at any computer.
Did I mention chrome is an awesome browser? :D
Good luck to me…
Dear Google, please don’t decide to turn into a cotton headed ninny muggins. My life is already in your hands. Thanks for being in the Christmas spirit and sharing these.
Will Chrome OS support more hardware than Ubuntu?
It’s like being high; I mean living in the cloud of course! G1 to Nexus One, Gtasks to Google Docs… my life has been made easy, it will be easier only if I can lay my hands on one of those (cr-48). I’ll use it well and test it as appropriate. I hope I win.
Chrome OS FTW
i’d love one. run and tell that
I want to go back to the future(mainframe in the cloud).I use google for 90% of my needs.
I want to go back to the future(mainframe in the cloud).
I drank the google Kool-aid long ago and want to try the os
I am thrilled about chrome os, and feel it would do quite well in my current environment (school and work)
I for one am thrilled about chrome os, and feel it would do quite well in my current environment (school and work)
i luv google chrome – pik me plz
I’d love to try one of these things out.
dont really understand why they are not posting, but i want one.
But I really do, I do love chrome!
Chrome rules!!! Choose me please!!
With a Chrome OS laptop and the data plan, I can read GigaOM anywhere (where service is available and local, state, federal entities and rulers of the internet allow it).
Although I do have an understanding of what devices Android is intended for use on, I keep wondering why the investment in Chrome OS. Covering all the possibilities?
google is the best….. so pick me
Android is better than chrome
I’d like one Kevin
Thanks
Kevin, I’d like one please.
Curious about this vision of cloud computing
Thanks
I do 90 percent of my work online (and the other 10 percent will eventually go that way), so I’d love to try this concept. Plus, my current four year old laptop is falling apart.
I teach online, so this cloud-based OS would work perfectly for me. All of my documents are already online and I share them with students online. I’d LOVE one of these. The free 3g data would be awesome for when I need to work away from my wifi.
I put this in the same class as the iPad, and I’d love to compare the two. I was a huge skeptic of the iPad at first, but it’s definitely won me over.
I hope no one gets picked that doesn’t actually want one of these.
Good luck everybody.. probably mine is last entry :)
Pick me I luve gigaom.com haha
Google Chrome is awesome
Please pick me!
Pick me plz
I love this idea. I also love the idea of Chrome OS, since I spend most of my day in Chrome anyway. I really hope you randomly pick me!
I love Chrome OS because I have parents that ALWAYS have to call me to ask about what is happening on their HP ENVY windows laptop. “Is this a virus”,”Is this working?”, “Come and install this.” etc
Thanks for the chance!
Hmm, only a comment? Well then my comment is simple:
Google Chrome OS
The Next 1984.
sirnot1@hotmail.com
cr-48? i’ll take it!
I love the concept of an OS completely on the cloud, I mean, its not for everyone nor all the time, but since i spend the majority of my time on the cloud anyways, this is perfect!!
I love chrome!
I love Google!!
Dount it will be able to compete with Windows or Mac but i.would still love to try one out. D
This notebook is a great idea. For the majority of internet users who only use the browser and web apps (like Google Docs), this would be wonderful and simplistic.
I would love a chrome OS notebook, i spend the majority of my time on the web anyways…
…the only thing im waiting for is a cloud based media player, so i can listen to my music and watch my video on the cloud!
anyways…
Pick Me – i luv chrome!!
I like free things.
And, after more than 1,000 comments, we’re are closing this post to comments. Thanks to everyone for chiming in!

google chrome is my all time favorite browser! so I’m excited to see what the google chrome laptop is going to be like (:
