Hmmm, let me clarify. If I didn’t already have my iMac desktop, I would consider buying a 17″ MacBook Pro to use as my one machine for home and mobile, since I do photo and video editing/reencoding on my desktop, and would want a beefy notebook for these tasks. But since I do have a desktop, I would consider getting a MacBook (or MacBook Air if I had a $2.5k sitting around) as my mobile computer.

Or I’d keep on using my P1610, even though I’m trying to get away from Windows as much as possible. :P

Re: 17″ notebook, perhaps it’s because that person has the notebook as their only computer. I would buy a 17″ notebook as a desktop replacement, and probably carry it around with me if I didn’t have other devices to use while I’m on the go (Nokia E90 and Nokia N810).

But even when I was using my Toshiba M200, I thought its size and weight were definite disadvantages.

Nipped into a new Starbucks in my nearest city today, no notebooks on display, just a disappointing b speed connection.(Yes, I checked to see if someone was on a pda).

can you call at 17″ hp pavilion a laptop??? i think it’s heavier than a regular desktop.

If you’re going to lug around a 6.4lb (15″ MacBookPro) laptop with all the accessories, then the difference to a 17″ (6.8lb) version is not so great…

I have a 14″ Dell for work, and with all the PLC Programming cables etc, I can barely lift the bag. A little extra on the laptop wouldn’t be so signigicant.

Any suggestions on a small laptop with a serial and PC Card slot would be appreciated – it would be cheaper than a chiropractor visit…
