Camangi Android Tablet Starts Hitting Consumer Hands
I’ve often thought that an Android tablet would make a nice web appliance, and I have followed the Camangi Webstation since it went on sale. The 7-inch screen is a good size for surfing the web, and the Android OS should make for a good platform for such a beast.
The Camangi devices are starting to arrive in the hands of early purchasers, and our friends at Gear Diary received one today. The unboxing video shows a very nicely constructed white tablet that is reminiscent of something those fruit people might make. Have a look at the video and see what you think. I can see eReader running on this baby to make a sterling reader. Oh, yes I can.

Want, but must resist until iSlate/MacTablet released. I hear rumor that Apple device will have a very unique hardware-based keyboard embedded in the screen. Also Apple will have content content content…magazines+newspapers+movies+tv-shows+music+books+games+….did i mention…CONTENT !!!
Sure @ the price of >$600 (2x the competition) for the same specs only different OS. Camangi is interesting but the CPU and RAM don’t inspire.. good CPU, >256MB of RAM (preferably >512MB), >7″ PixelQi screen, multitouch resistive screen.. hmm i think i’m requiring too much for under US$300 (for now).
tragreaFor me the Archos 5 running Anroid works really good. Small enough to put in pocket, big enough screen for web pages and renders so that it lines up, has GPS for navgation and works well with NDrive and CoPilot. Videos look great and play back great as well. Best thing its very portable and I am able to tether to my phone so I have access to web, traffIc, weather, etc…. on the road. With the Android hack you have access to more programs. Right now I’m using my A5.
Archos 5 IT rocks! Excerpt their firmware developers.. they suck! ;D
I’m curious to see the reviews on this, but I’m not really impressed by the specs. Right now my future dollars are on the eDGe, with an option remaining open for impressive performances by ICD or Apple, or possibly a killer new device announcement @ CES (if its manufacturer doesn’t take too long to bring it to market).
I think we are getting close to that tablet that every geek dreams of. Uggh.
I really just want something like the Courier prototype, I need to write on it!
Looks sweet! But I agree that the apple offering (if it gets here in the next month) and CES are too close to ignore.
Also the Archos 5 has potential… if it could just reach a little more of it.
-sigh- I want, but I want more.
