Roof shingles are the worst. My mom was asked to abandon her apartment after Wilma hit south Florida a few years ago. All the huge ceramic shingles flew off – so water streamed freely into the building ruining most of everything and safety was an issue with the electrical system.

But those shingles weren’t done! They devastated most of the cars in the neighborhood. My mom’s car roof was collapsed and the rear window smashed through along with the trunk. The car was flooded. After several weeks (long waiting line) of carpooling with no usable vehicle her insurance company declared it totaled.

I’ve rode out several hurricanes growing up in Florida. Not fun and mother nature generally wins.
