AT&T has been field testing an upgrade to their network here making the theoretical DL max 7.2Mbps vs. the current 3.6Mbps. Real world speeds on the current network around half that today and the iPhone does support them.

Apple wouldn’t do that, would they?” — No, they wouldn’t. Apple doesn’t leak news: they announce products at the last minute possible. However, Apple didn’t leak this story. It’s some guy at AT&T. And quite frankly it’s not much of a leak. I think we can expect a new iPhone, even if it’s just a storage bump, every year.
