AT&T: Get Ready for a Wild iPhone Summer
We knew that Apple wouldn’t sit around without giving the faithful a brand new iPhone this summer and rumors are flying about that very thing. BoyGeniusReport is claiming that an executive rather high in the AT&T food chain is laying it on thick that this summer will see the iPhone redefined.
The new iPhone that is hinted to be around the corner “will be faster and have a more seamless experience unmatched by any device”. The rumor is rife with HSDPA speed (7.2 Mbps) and like all iPhone rumors we know this must be true. :)
Given Apple’s penchant for absolute secrecy could a leak like this be aimed at the Palm Pre? Apple wouldn’t do that, would they?

What exactly is going to change significantly between now and July with ATT’s network? They can’t keep up with data demands now across the nation. Do they some magical hidden network they are going to turn on in the next 3 months??
Does anyone outside of the million rabid techies (who were also rabid for th G1) even know anything about the Pre? I don’t see any attention to deflect.
AT&T need to improve their network just to match Verizon and Sprint.
I’m trying to be open minded about what I will actually need that extra speed for, but I’ll buy it :) A new iPhone every year.
wait….video conferencing sure that’s it.
I had no idea that the iPhone didn’t already support HSDPA. UMTS is so 2005.
Jake, the iPhone 3G does support HSDPA. AT&T has been field testing an upgrade to their network here making the theoretical DL max 7.2Mbps vs. the current 3.6Mbps. Real world speeds on the current network around half that today and the iPhone does support them.
“Given Apple’s penchant for absolute secrecy could a leak like this be aimed at the Palm Pre? Apple wouldn’t do that, would they?” — No, they wouldn’t. Apple doesn’t leak news: they announce products at the last minute possible. However, Apple didn’t leak this story. It’s some guy at AT&T. And quite frankly it’s not much of a leak. I think we can expect a new iPhone, even if it’s just a storage bump, every year.
Completely agree with you Sumocat. There’s nothing unexpected in this leak that I can see.
Perhaps we’ll see an iPhone Nano …. ?
