Asus R2H UMPC getting a Core Duo?
So we DO know that Asus pushed back their entry into the UMPC market until later this summer. Do we know the real reason though? Paperback PC is reporting that the Asus R2H UMPC model might surprise us with an Intel Core Duo processor running at 1.5 GHz. This could be an interesting shot across Samsung’s bow IF it’s true and IF the R2H comes in at a price that’s competitive to the Q1.
As a seven-day Q1 owner, my thoughts are "Sure more power would be nice", but so far there hasn’t been a single time where the Q1 hasn’t met my needs due to its 900 MHz Celeron. We all want more for less; that’s human nature, but up to this point, "more" hasn’t been a necessity. Perhaps I’ll change my mind if Asus gets the Core Duo in the R2H at a similar price point to the Q1.

I agree Kevin, I have not come to a situation were I needed more power from my Q1. If I need power I turn to my desktop. To me, the Q1 complements my desktop.
The dual core would likely generate a LOT more heat than the Celeron. Just a gut feeling.
The heat/power consuption will only increase significantly if you’re running some power hungry application. In general use what will hapen is that it would respond more quickly and then drop back into a sleep mode. The peak power useage would increase (depending on the chip), but the average would stay roughly the same.
There is always something new to wait for isn’t there… Nice pic of the Newton Messagepad 2100 too!
Bad news – The story about the Core Duo processor was not true. I had it confirmed as false today by Samsung Germany. Like others though, I don’t think i’d really need the extra power. It would be nice, but i’d rather have the battery life.

Paperback information is wrong; Asus Origami will integrate a Core Duo U2500 (1,2 GHZ, ULV, 533 MHZ front Bus).
